Hello World! Welcome Friends! In the last several years, there has been an increasing number of individuals who choose to work from home. There are numerous reasons that make working from home more convenient such as flexible working hours, no need for commuting every day, and to avoid office distractions. Moreover, there is a rising trend of becoming a stay-at-home mom that is spreading quickly all over the world among women. There is no surprise that balancing motherhood with freelancing may be a challenging task. Yet, the rise of the internet and technology has paved the way for numerous jobs that can be performed from home.
A great example of the rising trend of working as a freelancer from home can be found in California. A recent study conducted by the Center for Labor Research and Education at UC Berkeley has shown that approximately 8.5 percent of California’s workforce falls into the category of self-employed freelancers. Silicon Valley is thriving and has become a tech hub where it is extremely easy to find a software company in California to work for from home.
Becoming a mother is one of the most fulfilling feelings that a woman can experience during her lifetime. Yet, modern women from today’s world have started to be extremely focused on building a successful career as well. So, becoming a stay-at-home mom is the perfect way to balance the joy of being a parent and having the possibility to continue investing in your career.
Create a Schedule and Stick With It
The most essential and first step that you should make to prepare for becoming a stay-at-home mom is to create an efficient schedule. If you wish to be able to find the right balance between motherhood and freelancing, you need to know how many hours you wish to work for and how much time you can offer to the mother duties. Surely, one of the best advantages of working from home is that you get the chance to have flexible working hours. So, depending on your needs and your child’s needs, you should create a schedule that is suitable for you to do your job well and spend quality time with your child. Also, staying organized can help you successfully balance motherhood with freelancing. Keep a list of projects and work-related tasks to plan out your day and avoid missing any important deadlines. You can use spreadsheets, calendars, and appointment apps to keep track of both motherhood and work-related tasks.
Set Clear Boundaries
Setting clear boundaries when working as a freelancer and taking care of your child can help you do both of your jobs perfectly. You need to balance the needs of your clients and the needs of your growing child, yet, without forgetting about your own needs as well. As a mother, you may be willing to push yourself outside of your comfort zone and do everything for the wellbeing of your child. For your career, you may be tempted to take on more than you can handle to ensure the growth of your career. Yet, you need to set clear boundaries of how much you wish to work and how much time you wish to be present in your child’s life to make sure you do not miss any milestone such as the first word spoken or the first steps. Also, you need to make sure that both your clients and your child will respect the rules that you have decided on. Do not allow your clients to overload you with extra tasks that might put you in a difficult situation to find time for and set rules for your child, if possible, to respect your workspace and time.
Design a Workspace
When balancing working from home and motherhood, designing a workspace is one of the best ways to do your job productively. First of all, it will help you stay focused on your work and increase your productivity as you will feel like in an actual office. Moreover, it is a great way to make your child respect your privacy while working without disrupting you. Working from home can be tricky as it may be difficult to get yourself motivated to get out of the bed and get in front of your computer. Yet, if you design a space that actually inspires you to get to work, you will feel more motivated to start doing your job.
Take Advantage of Children’s Nap
Probably the most powerful tool you have as a freelance mother is your child’s nap time. Especially with babies who take naps often, it should be easy for you to have the time and peace to do your work. The house is quiet as they rest so there will be no disruptions or other tasks that might keep you away from completing your tasks for your clients. As soon as the opportunity to take advantage of your child’s sleep time arises, start working productively to finish your job tasks during that quiet time.
Do Not Be Afraid to Ask for Help
Usually, mothers find it very difficult to admit that they need help and ask for it. They wish for the best for their children which make them believe that no one else is better than them at taking care of their kid. However, no matter what superpowers motherhood comes with, you need to accept that sometimes is just fine to ask for a little help and support. Especially when you are balancing parenting with freelancing, it can get overwhelming sometimes. Sometimes your kid’s needs will be the most important and sometimes you will have to deal with crucial deadlines from your work that simply demand to be put first. So, when an important deadline is approaching and you are under great pressure, a rescue buddy can help you with taking care of your child until you finish your work. When the professional load is very demanding, you can ask for help from a nanny or a family member.
Working as a freelancer parent can be a bit of a challenge, but if you manage to find the right balance between those two, you will gain both personal and professional satisfying returns.
