Hello World! Welcome Friends! Did you know that the average new parent only gets 5 hours of sleep per night? Unfortunately, lack of sleep can affect your mental and physical health, as well as relationships with those around you. That’s why it is important to try and get some help by using these tips on how to deal with sleep deprivation when you have a newborn:
Try and Get Into a Normal Sleep Schedule
For example, if you do not have a normal sleep schedule, try and find the number of hours you usually sleep at night. Now, try to go to bed 10 minutes before that time – for example, 11:00 pm every night- and wake up around that same time. Eventually, you will sleep at the same time every night.
If your schedule allows for napping, try and nap as often as possible. Also, remember to not overdo it on sleeping during the day, or you may end up oversleeping at night and going back to your old ways.
Encourage Good Baby Sleep
As a new parent, you probably have a lot of questions about how to get your baby to sleep. One of the most important things that you can do is encourage good sleep habits in your growing child. Avoid rocking them back to sleep after they wake up.
As they get older, you’ll need to encourage good sleep habits by setting a bedtime routine and sticking to it. For example, reading them a book before bed every night followed by kisses and cuddles will help them associate those activities with going to sleep.
Get a Snoo Smart Baby Bassinet
Are you a new parent struggling with sleep deprivation? Are follow-up questions from friends and family asking, “When will your baby sleep through the night?” getting on your last nerve? Then maybe it’s time to invest in a little bit of technology for your little one.
The Snoo Smart Baby Bassinet is a smart bed that knows just when to shush, swaddle and rock your baby back to sleep. Utilizing the same research that helped create successful sleeping patterns for countless babies in hospitals across the country, the Snoo Smart Baby Bassinet creates a personalized experience for your new bundle of joy based on their unique cry.
The smart bed monitors the baby using sound and motion sensors that will trigger a calming response if the baby wakes up or is in distress. But, honestly, the Snoo Smart Baby Bassinet rocks your infant to sleep, and helps improve their sleep patterns by transitioning between sleep modes based on how restless they are. In fact, it also monitors the temperature of the baby’s room and soothes the baby with a soft glowing night light.
Don’t Try to Do Everything Yourself. Let People Help You
You are sleep-deprived. Everyone is telling you that you need to get more sleep. What do you decide to do? If your answer was “take on more projects at work, spend two hours cleaning my house every day, continue working out twice a week, and try to have dinner ready for my family when they get home from work” then you need to sit down and reevaluate your priorities.
When you try to do everything yourself, you not only burn yourself out, but you’re actually working against your own interests. You need people to help you and support you, and it’s okay to ask for help sometimes.
Practice Healthy Sleeping Habits
Isn’t this the most obvious one on the list? But seriously, as sleep-deprived as you are, it will be nearly impossible for you to practice healthier sleeping habits. You can read all of the articles and books in the world about how to get your baby into a healthy sleeping routine, and it won’t do much good until they’re sleeping all night in their bed. That being said, you can still help yourself by practicing healthy sleeping habits when they are awake and playing.
Sleep hygiene is simply having good sleep habits. They should be practiced throughout your life, but especially when you’re expecting them. Be sure that your bedroom is set up for sleeping (and sex if you’re into it). The temperature should be cool and comfortable. No TV or electronics in the bedroom.
Stay away from stimulants before bedtime, including alcohol and nicotine. Make sure you’re eating healthy by eating foods that contain tryptophan or melatonin so that your body can naturally produce it while you are asleep.
If you’re sleep-deprived, don’t worry – it will change with time. Start practicing healthy sleeping habits with your newborn now so that it becomes second nature for you as they get older.
