Hello World! Welcome Friends! Retro interior décor has a distinctive appeal and charm — encompassing several decades of styles and infusing a little bit of past influences into the present. It evokes a sense of funk and flair; with a bold approach in the choice of color through rich and exciting textures and fabrics — and intrigue in furniture pieces and decorative accents. So, how can you inject some retro style into your home? We have a few ideas below to help you create this energizing interior style.
Add Unique Color-Popping Furniture Pieces
Retro style requires a bold approach to interior styling; and often has a fun and lively feel to it. Selecting a sofa that makes a statement is an easy way to inject this vibrant style into your living room. A colorful showpiece couch breaks away from the neutral color palette — and it’s an effortless way to create the room’s focal point. For example, you could go with a blue sofa, a bright red coffee table, or even a bold yellow lamp- it’s whatever you want really!
Opt for furniture pieces that add a splash of color; and keep the rest of the room’s color scheme subtle for a cohesive look. If a bold sofa is too much to live with; multi-colored throw cushions are a great alternative for an added dash of color. Use cushion covers in avocado green, mustard yellow, hot pink, bright orange, indigo blue to achieve an authentic retro look.
Bring in Vintage Florals, Patterns and Geometrics
Retro interior brings together bold, eye-catching patterns, styled florals and paisleys — perfect for breathing new life and artistry in any room. Retro pillows, rugs and window treatments are useful starting places to push forward this style. You may want to select large patterns and bold florals within a few colors to keep your décor scheme from being overwhelmed and seeming scattered and uninviting. Fabrics and textures such as shag carpeting, crushed velvet, faux fur and flirty voile are retro style essentials and can easily lift the room’s mood.
Reimagined Your Stereo Console
If you wondering how to integrate a console table to complement your retro style, there’s no better way than bringing out a true vintage unit. Yes, record players are still very much on trend and can become the stylish piece that completes the retro theme in your living space. It’s a stunning yet practical addition that brings in more depth to the scheme of things — an epitome of cool and an ultimate showpiece perfect for any occasion.
Draw attention to your record player by covering your console with an unexpected print for an interesting décor statement. Placing your turntable on its own dedicated stand ups the vintage vibe and will do justice to any retro albums you’ve managed to find. You can further complete the look with a few of your favorite books, CD’s on wall-to-wall shelving to showcase your music collection, or a film-set style standard lamp to add personality and set the tone.
Mix the Old with the New
If you enjoy a combination of styles from different eras, then retro style allows you to infuse that into your living space. Incorporate old style pieces with a modern twist; for instance, modern furniture with retro materials and finishes. Curvilinear and circular designer furniture items in chrome, glass, plastic or wood are the hallmark of retro style. The idea is to create a cozy and heartwarming atmosphere with unusually, playful and vibrant décor elements that instantly stand out from the mundane.
Opt for an eye-catching carpet and pair it with a sumptuous modern take of a chesterfield couch; or perhaps shiny chrome barstools with bright orange or mint tincture to provide unique seating for guests. Draw attention to a wall gallery of small pictures or posters with dynamic geometric patterns with statement lighting. Desk lamps with fancy forms and atom clocks in various shapes add visual weight and interest to a retro décor scheme.

Such a fun post with perfect example photos. I find myself drawn to these pieces because of their clean lines and I think they can mix well with that Palm Beach vibe I am trying to incorporate. I guess I just like too many things. Have a fun weekend.

Some lovely ideas here. I have an Edwardian Terrace and I love the house for its old features. I’d love the 50s style, but it doesn’t fit unfortunately
