Hello World! Welcome Friends! The refrigerator is a very important appliance in nearly every home in the country. It provides a method to safely store food. If a refrigerator is malfunctioning or stops working altogether, it can cause the loss of all the food inside. This makes it important for homeowners to keep their refrigerators in good working order.
Refrigerator Repair
When the refrigerator is not working properly, it is important to have it repaired as soon as possible. Unfortunately, repair services can be quite costly, especially on short notice. Fortunately, homeowners can get help from 2-10 HBW with a home warranty.
A home warranty is a great way to keep all the appliances in the home protected, including the refrigerator. If the refrigerator stops working, policyholders can simply contact the provider to have a repair contractor dispatched to the home to repair the refrigerator all for a set fee.
Unfortunately, not everyone has a home warranty to protect their appliances. This makes it important for homeowners to understand the various problems a refrigerator may have so they can determine the best course of action to repair the appliance.
Power Outage
If the refrigerator is not running and there is no light when the door is open, there may be a problem with the power to the unit. It is important that homeowners make sure it is not some kind of power outage before beginning any repairs. Check to see if the breaker for that area is blown or if the plug has been knocked out of the wall.
If the power outage is not due to a problem outside the unit, there must be something wrong with the power supply within the unit. One problem may be inefficient current coming from the outlet; another issue may be with the miniature circuit breaker within the refrigerator.
Faulty Thermostat
If the refrigerator is working but does not seem to cool properly, it may be a problem with the thermostat. The first thing to check is the thermostat setting. Sometimes the thermostat gets bumped or moved by children playing. Check to ensure that it was not inadvertently turned down.
If adjusting the thermostat is no help, there may be a problem with the thermostat itself. When the thermostat goes bad, it cannot maintain the proper temperature in the refrigerator. Often, this will need to be replaced to get the unit to function properly.
Blocked Vents
There are vents that allow cold air to flow from the freezer to the refrigerator. If the air cannot properly flow, the refrigerator cannot get as cold as it needs to. These vents can get blocked by too much food in the unit. The vent can even be blocked with ice. Sometimes, defrosting the refrigerator or removing the food items blocking the vents can restore the refrigerator to proper working order.
Dirty Condenser Coils
Improper functioning of the refrigerator could be due to dirty condenser coils. The coils on the back of the refrigerator allow the refrigerant in the unit to cool and condense. This allows the refrigerant to continue to keep the unit at the right temperature.
When the coils are dirty, they prevent the heat from escaping. If the refrigerant cannot cool and condense, it cannot keep the food at the right temperature. This can be repaired easily by unplugging the refrigerator and then brushing off or vacuuming the dirt and debris away from the coil area.
Faulty Start Capacitor
When the refrigerator is on, the thermostat sends a signal to the start capacitor when temperatures get low. The start capacitor then triggers the compressor to start the cooling cycle. When the start capacitor is faulty, it may not trigger the cycle properly. If it goes out completely, the refrigerator cannot start. If this is the cause of the problem, it will need to be replaced.
Door Not Closing
To keep the refrigerator at the proper temperature, both the fridge and freezer doors must be kept closed. Frequent opening or leaving the doors open for long periods of time can warm the interior so much that it affects the food inside. This makes it important to open the doors only when adding or removing food items and close it promptly.
If there is damage to the seals of the fridge or freezer door, the door will not close completely and allow warm air to enter. Not only will this affect the temperature of the food inside, but it can cause the refrigerator to run more frequently. Repairing or cleaning the seals on the door can prevent this from occurring.
Low Refrigerant
Refrigerant is necessary for the unit to keep the inside of the refrigerator at the proper temperature. If there is not enough refrigerant, the appliance cannot cool the contents properly. Often, if the unit is low on refrigerant, it is due to a leak in the system.
Replacing refrigerants and repairing refrigerant leaks are jobs that should be reserved for a professional. A repair contractor understands the proper and safe handling of refrigerants. They are also experienced in identifying leaks in refrigerators. It is strongly recommended that homeowners contact a professional for any refrigerant filling or repairs.
Faulty Fan Motor
There are two types of fan motors in a refrigerator. One is the condenser fan motor and the other is the evaporator fan motor. Both of these are important for the proper functioning of the refrigerator. If the motor goes out on one of these, it will need to be replaced to use the refrigerator.
The condenser fan motor is either behind or under the refrigerator. This fan motor draws air over the condenser coils to cool and condense the refrigerant. Without this fan, the refrigerator will not cool and may even overheat.
The evaporator fan motor is located in the freezer compartment. This fan motor circulates the cold air from the evaporator coils to the freezer and into the refrigerator section of the unit. If this motor fails, the freezer may still be cold, but the refrigerator section will not be.
There are many other issues that could arise with a refrigerator that may prevent it from properly cooling food. Homeowners who are unfamiliar with the functioning parts of a refrigerator should contact a professional repair contractor to handle the problems to ensure safety and proper repairs.
