Hello World! Welcome Friends! Your master suite is a sanctuary for you and a partner, and you deserve to decorate it however you want. There are several thoughtful things you can do to make your master suite a relaxing space.
Here are seven ways to make your master suite an oasis.
1. Decorate with Plants
Adding plants to your master suite provides many aesthetic and personal benefits.
Being around greenery can boost your mood and bring more life into your room. There are plenty of succulents and low-light plants that work well throughout a room.
Some plants also purify the air, helping you breathe easier through the night. They can also release relaxing aromas that help calm your mind and body. Jasmine, lavender and citrus plants are some of the most effective at this.
As humans, we have an inherent connection with nature and research shows that being around them can calm the mind, helping you decompress before bed.
2. Layer Your Textures
You can mix different textures throughout the space to decorate and add coziness to your room. Make functional artwork by layering different pillows and blankets. This adds dimension to your room and you can use it to incorporate different colors in your space.
Blankets are a common and wonderful item to layer since having different sizes and fabrics can accommodate different needs. Cotton and fleece are warm options that work well for winter or when blasting the air conditioning. Meanwhile, wool and cotton are much more breathable, working well for summer or in front of the fireplace.
3. Add a Rug
An area rug can help bring everything in a space together and add color and texture to the room. There are different textures to meet your comfort level, including the following options.
- Flatweave – These are good rugs if you want a more subtle and easily-navigable accent rug. Manufacturers make these on a loom and create a thinner, flatter rug with unique patterns and a less-plush texture.
- Machine-Made – As the name suggests, these rugs aren’t made by hand. This process allows producers to quickly make ornate designs on plush rugs. These are the rugs you’re most likely to find on retail store shelves.
- Braided Rugs – A braided rug provides a unique texture that goes back hundreds of years. You can easily make one of these with a few tools. They normally are circular or oval and contain multiple colors.
- Hand-Knotted – These rugs are also known as “Oriental” rugs and specialists produce the rugs on a vertical loom. They often have ornate designs and a thinner design.
Rugs are easier to clean than carpeting and you can even layer them for a unique look.
4. Incorporate a Mirror
Mirrors can bring more light to a room and come in various shapes and sizes to fit your wants and needs.
In the right location, they’ll spread natural light from windows around the room, helping you rely less on artificial bulbs. That can save you money and reduce your carbon footprint.
Due to its reflection, a mirror also makes your room look larger which is beneficial if you have a small or crowded bedroom.
5. Paint it a Soothing Color
Your master suite should be a calm and relaxing space and you can achieve that effect through painting it certain colors.
Different shades impact us in different ways. Bright colors and cool undertones could produce hyper-vigilance or increased anxiety–not features you want in the place you sleep. Earth tones and lavenders have a calming effect and can make your room feel more like an oasis.
Warm neutrals are also a good choice, setting the stage for you to add accent colors with curtains, bedding and decor.
6. Add a Nice Accent Chair
While the bed is the most important furniture piece in a bedroom, you might want another space to read, relax and get ready.
An accent chair is an excellent option to fill extra space in your master suite. One of two go perfectly in front of an in-bedroom fireplace or as part of a reading nook. Placing a chair in a walk-in closet can also help you put on shoes and serve as a place to lay out the next day’s outfit.
Choose a neutral color to decorate with a colorful pillow and blanket or find a dun and unique pattern that matches your desired aesthetic.
7. Add Decorative Storage
If your master suite gets easily cluttered, adding some decorative storage can be a great multi-purpose solution.
Ornate chests and colorful storage ottomans are some of the items that can liven up your room while helping you keep items stored and out of the way. You can often find these in retail and furniture stores but also consider thrifting them. Vintage storage items can create stand-out heirlooms for you and your family.
Thoughtfully Decorating Your Master Suite
Your master suite should be a relaxing space for you to rest and unwind. By putting time and care into your decor items, you can create the best room for you and your partner.

I’m wanting to repaint but haven’t had the money to do it yet. I’m thinking about changing from a light grey to a light blusish grey with a blue accent wall. I can’t wait to see how it looks.
