Hello World! Welcome Friends! House fires are more common than you think. If you like to cook homemade meals, your stoves and other kitchen appliances can turn into potential fire hazards. If you have lots of electronics clustered together, there’s also a risk of an electrical fire breaking out. If you are fortunate, you may put out the house fire right away. Otherwise, the fire may grow and possibly engulf your entire house.
While house fires are common, homeowners can easily avoid them with the proper safety precautions. House fires rarely become overpowering as long as you take preventative measures beforehand. However, if you don’t mitigate the danger right away, a small spark may inevitably lead to a bigger house fire that grows out of control.
Use these following tips to protect your property from house fires:
1. Kitchen Appliance Safety
Cooking is a natural pastime for many homeowners. Even if all safety precautions are taken, a small careless mistake can result in a fire. Your stove, for instance, could be a prime culprit in sparking the flame. So, for optimal security, be sure to check out your kitchen appliances regularly.
Maintenance is relatively easy to do when trying to protect yourself from accidental emergencies. A simple cleaning of your stove and other appliances will ensure they are in optimal condition. If any kitchen appliance looks suspicious, be sure to check in with the manufacturer immediately.
2. Smoke Detectors
If you live in a house or apartment, you know all too well how vital it is to have working smoke detectors. These devices are an excellent pre-emptive security measure as they detect the presence of smoke. Should this presence of smoke lead to an eventual fire, you will be notified well ahead of time.
For most individuals, you’ll always want to ensure that you have at least a couple smoke detectors in working order. Check the batteries every few months to ensure that they are working as expected. If they have run their course, you can replace a new detector at a reasonable price.
3. Cord Safety
Since a cordless future may still be far off, we will have to deal with cable management in our homes. To keep electronic devices in a safe condition, you will have to inspect the cords. Double check and make sure there are no exposed cords.
If the cords are exposed, don’t just assume they will be okay. A spark may ignite in the cabled area, leading to an otherwise preventable fire. Cords also tend to get pretty hot if the associated device has been in use for a long time. Never leave the cords unattended, especially if they are prone to damage.
4. Fire Extinguishers
By law, you are generally required to have a few safety devices placed in and around your home. One of those primary devices is a fire extinguisher, which is pivotal for your home’s security. Fire extinguishers should always be placed in a readily accessible area, such as the kitchen.
The placement is because fires tend to break out in these specific rooms. For example, there may be stray sparks from your stove, which can be easily resolved with a fire extinguisher. If you have other spaces in your home that could be vulnerable to fire, keep a spare extinguisher around as well.
5. Flammable Product Safety
The general cleaning products we use daily are excellent for functionality. However, many of them, such as air fresheners, could be flammable by design. Never place these products in areas that could make them vulnerable to fire. Otherwise, you will have an unfortunate emergency on your hands!
6. Electric Heaters
During the cold wintery months, you may purchase secondary devices to help keep your home warm. One good example is a heater, which could also be flammable by design if left exposed. Keep these devices clear of anything that could set them on fire.
7. Exit Strategy
Above all else, you’ll always want to have an emergency exit plan in order. Your family’s safety is of the utmost importance, and you need a plan to get them out of harm’s way safely. Take the time to review your exit strategy, and know where all the applicable routes are in your property. With the right direction, coupled with a constant review, you will keep yourself safe at virtually all times!
