Hello World! Welcome Friends! Our home is our castle, and we want it to be fit for a king. If you are lucky enough to have the opportunity to design and build your own home, then you have the chance to make all of your home design dreams come true! The world is your oyster so let your imagination run wild. Here are 7 items to include on your self-build wish list.
A Great Security System
First of all, we need to protect our castle by installing a top-notch security system. Look online for lists of the best home security systems and decide what kind of setup will best suit your needs. The range of home security products on the market today is vast and ranges from video doorbells to outdoor cameras, all of which can be controlled via a smartphone.
Eco Friendly Products
We all want to play our part in the preservation of the planet, and that is of utmost importance when it comes to building a house. Not only is it important for the environment that we use eco-friendly products and systems but installing such products can save us money too.
We can install solar panels on the roof of our self-build, which will help heat water for use throughout the house. Excellent insulation will cut down energy consumption, as will double or even triple-glazed windows. LED light bulbs have a significant impact on energy consumption and should be used when they can. Installing a ground source heat pump heating system is one of the most eco-friendly ways to heat your home as it has very low running and carbon costs. The system gives off no harmful gases and has no risk of combustion.
A Mudroom
If you live in a cold, wet country or have a pet dog, a mudroom is a necessity rather than a luxury. When coming in from a walk in the rain and mud, family members can enter the house via the mudroom, where they can take off their wet and dirty clothes and hang them up to dry without trailing filth through the rest of the house. Build floor-to-ceiling cupboards or pigeonholes for storing shoes and boots.
Dirty wet dogs can come in and have their feet cleaned and their bodies dried. You may want to consider installing a doggy shower in the mudroom to hose down particularly mucky mutts.
An Outdoor Tap
An alternative to a doggy shower is a hot and cold tap and hose system outside the house so you can clean dirty dogs and shoes outside before you enter the house. Hot outdoor taps are also a great way of filling paddling pools, spas, and swimming pools. Cold taps are essential for setting up sprinkler systems or watering plants with a watering can.
A Walk-In Larder Cupboard
Installing a large walk-in larder is top of the wish list for many keen cooks and food lovers. Having a large area to store groceries can help save a household money because items can be bought in bulk at a cash and carry warehouse.
People who love to be organized will enjoy purchasing containers to fill with dried goods such as pasta, flour, and sugar and make fancy labels for them. Food can be sorted in columns, rows, or by food group and so on. Small electrical appliances, large pots and pans, baking trays, and sacks of vegetables can be stored away in a larder cupboard, making the kitchen seem less cluttered and spacious.
A Wine Cellar
If you are a budding wine connoisseur and collector or just enjoy an occasional tipple, you may want to consider installing a wine cellar in your new home. Spiral wine cellars can be fitted underneath the floor of your home, which stores bottles in a circular shelving unit that has a glass entry door that sits flush with your home’s flooring. They can look really cool. If you want to build up an extensive collection of wine, you could build a cellar in the basement of your home that will store a good number of bottles and keep them at an optimal temperature and humidity.
A Cinema Room
If you are a movie buff or have kids, chances are a cinema room will sit in prime position on your wish list.
You can hire a specialist home cinema company to install a theatre in your home, or you can do it yourself. You will require a large screen television or a projector screen with a projector, and you should mount the screen on the wall. Next, you will need a top-notch audio system that provides surround sound and includes a subwoofer speaker for authentic cinema sound. If you don’t have enough space for lots of speakers, you can mount a soundbar to the wall near the screen – a quality soundbar will provide you with as good sound as a complete speaker system.
You can decorate your home theatre room to give it the ambiance of a real cinema by painting the walls in dark colors such as deep red or blue and covering the floor in a comfortable, plush carpet in a similar dark shade. Add some framed posters of your favorite movies to the walls and some attractive uplighter lamps.
