Hello World! Welcome Friends! Are you tired of the limited selection and low-quality furniture that comes from your local big-box store? Our homes are an extension and reflection of ourselves. Because of that, we want to do everything we can to make sure they look their very best. And, that sometimes means breaking out the toolbox and crafting supplies and making your furniture yourself. Looking for that one perfect piece to help tie your room together? We can help. Here are seven easy DIY furniture projects that can help you transform your house into your dream home.
1. Chic Wooden Headboard
Your bed’s headboard is the centerpiece of your bedroom. Unfortunately, headboards, especially chic wooden ones, can be expensive.
But, with this nifty DIY wooden headboard, you can bypass the lavish price tag and create the perfect headboard to suit your room and your budget!
Start with an old or cheap headboard that fits your bed. It doesn’t matter what the headboard you pick looks like, as long as it has a smooth, flat surface.
Then, apply either faux peel-and-stick wood or some other real-wood product like Stikwood.
Make sure you have the proper type of cutting tool to trim your wood, and measure and pre-lay everything before you start sticking things down.
Before you start using your new headboard, take a few moments to run your hand over it to make sure there aren’t any jagged edges that will snag your pillows. If you’re using real wood, feel free to sand away any roughness with some fine-grain sandpaper.
2. Sliding Barn Door
Stylish sliding barn doors are the pinnacle of simplistic, rustic decor. And, while they may seem like a pricy addition to your interior design, they don’t have to be!
You can create your very-own ultra-lightweight sliding barn door yourself, and all it takes is a bit of pipe and a few wheels.
By mounting a piece of pipe on the wall to act as a guide, and attaching a few casters to the bottom of the door, you won’t need to worry about any renovations.
And, by creating your door yourself, you can create a truly unique barn door that perfectly suits your home.
3. Unique Dresser Desk
Are you looking for a stylish minimalistic desk that doesn’t skimp on storage?
To create this easy DIY project, you’ll need to start by finding a small chest of drawers. Then, all you need is a large piece of 3-inch plywood or a hollow-core door, two square dowels or table legs, and six metal casters.
Start by attaching the casters to the bottom of the additional legs and the chest of drawers. Then, cover the wheels and paint all the components to match your decor. You may even want to consider swapping out the handles on the drawers.
Screw the legs to one end of the desktop, then attach the other end to the top of the chest of drawers.
4. Pallet Coffee Table
The pallet coffee table is a staple of every style from chic industrial to cozy country-rustic.
The hardest part of creating one of these timeless DIY jobs is finding the pallets. Fortunately, outside of ordering some online, most home improvement stores can help point you in the right direction.
You’ll probably want to get two pallets and stack them to help give your table a little extra height.
You’ll want to start this DIY by sanding down your pallets to make sure they’re smooth and splinter-free. Then, you’ll want to stain or paint them to match your decor.
Fasten your pallets to each other with screws to keep them in place. Then, attach a few casters to the bottom of your new coffee table to give it a little extra lift and mobility.
5. Rolling End Table
If you’re looking for an easy but unique end table or plant stand, this rolling option is the perfect choice for you.
To create your rolling end table, you’ll need a large, rectangular wooden milk crate, wood stain or paint of your choice, and four plated casters.
Start by staining or painting the crate whatever color you would like.
Once the paint is dry, and your crate is the desired color, turn it on its side and attach the four casters to the corners of one of the short ends.
Turn your crate upright, so the four wheels are on the floor, and it’s ready to go.
Finish this piece off by adding a few decorative touches like books or a plant inside the empty crate and wheel it wherever you would like.
6. Oversized Tufted Ottoman
Multi-functional pieces are a must-have for 2019. And, there’s nothing more stylish or functional than an oversized ottoman.
While you can certainly kick your feet up on an oversized ottoman, with an added tray, they also make for fantastic coffee tables.
Before you can start building your ottoman, you’ll need to decide how big it needs to be. Once you figure out how big you want to make it, then you’ll need to calculate how long the legs and supports should be.
To build your ottoman, you’ll need a large piece of plywood, a hardwood 1×4 for the legs, a sheet of foam cushioning, some fabric, and buttons for the tufting.
7. The Rope Shelf
With a little twine and a wooden board, you can create a unique floating shelf that will be perfect for displaying all your prized knick-knacks.
Start by drilling four evenly spaced holes in the corners of your wood board. Then feed the twine through the holes and knot them on the bottom of the board.
Finally, screw two ceiling hooks into your wall, hang your new shelf, and you’re ready to go!
Finding new furniture to decorate your home can be tricky. Sites like lease classifieds are fantastic for helping you find unique pieces. But, creating furniture yourself is one of the best ways to put your mark on your home.
