Make Plans, Organize your Room, and Purge as Needed
As a small apartment parent, I learned very quickly that babies take up lots of space. Raising a baby will occupy a large area due to all of their toys, clothes, and everyday necessities. You’ll feel overwhelmed when you bring home your baby if your apartment isn’t ready. You can’t just buy a Philippines property in a flash.
What you can do is organize your apartment beforehand. Be sure to get your apartment ready before or shortly after you become pregnant. You should start KonMari-ing your apartment by letting go of everything you don’t need. I had to get rid of a lot of things when we did this. The old movies that we have watched a dozen times. The old magazines and books that will probably never be read again. Bottom line, we have a lot of unnecessary items lying around at home; get rid of them.
When you are done with your stuff, you can reorganize your space. If you did a thorough KonMari purge, you might be surprised how much space you saved. Organize and prepare space for your baby’s clothes, diapers, and milk stuff. These things take a considerable amount of space.
Make use of concealable bins like those found under the bed or in the closet. These bins are convenient and space-saving. They’ll make your apartment look less cluttered.
A Mini Crib Can Be your Best Friend
With a small bed in our apartment in Alveo Makati, we didn’t want the baby to sleep next to us. My husband and I knew that we needed to get a crib for our baby. We also knew we could not get a large crib. At the mall nearby, we decided to look for cribs. Sadly, the cribs on display were not a good fit for our apartment. It was huge and would take a lot of space. Thankfully, a friend of mine introduced me to mini cribs.
Nowadays, most mini cribs can be assembled and disassembled in less than 5 minutes. You can easily store them away when they’re not in use. Additionally, they have wheels so that you can move the crib anywhere.
Put the Crib Away from the Living Room and the Door
For a while, we decided to place the crib in our living room. It seemed the best choice because it has the largest open space in our apartment.
Isn’t that a great idea? Nope!
Just a few days after our baby came home, we realized that putting the crib in the living room near the door was the worst idea ever. We were constantly waking our baby up with the noise from our living room. We couldn’t watch our favorite series on TV. Our phone calls had to be made outside, which meant opening our creaking door numerous times. In addition to the indoor noise, there were outside noises as well, people walking and talking, and the roar of passing vehicles.
We decided to redesign our entire apartment to accommodate our baby further away from the door and living room. It made a big difference for us. We weren’t waking the baby up with the sounds and lights.
Get an Affordable Storage Unit
A minimalist lifestyle is not for everyone. Keeping your stuff organized is a great way to declutter, and renting a self-storage unit could be your solution to keeping everything organized. The storage unit can also be used to store your old Christmas decorations, clothes, furniture, books, and other things. It is easy and convenient to organize all your stuff with a storage unit, which costs a minimal monthly fee.
Anything and Everything is Multi-Purpose
As we were shopping for baby stuff, we had the specific intention of getting something multipurpose. We also looked at hacks and alternatives.
Our favorite item is the changing table with storage. We could easily store baby items such as clothes, toys, and diapers at the bottom of the changing table. Besides being convenient, it saved us a lot of space.
Consider items that might be an excellent alternative to standard, bulky baby stuff. For example, a yoga mat could be used as the baby’s playmat. A folding couch box can also serve as a storage box.
Get Minimalist When it Comes to Baby Stuff
When shopping for your baby’s wardrobe, it’s so easy to go overboard. I can’t stop buying cute baby tops. Of course, we only want to give the best to our baby. But infants grow out of their clothing so fast. It is easy to fill your storage space up with clothes that won’t fit your baby after three months if you do so much shopping. When you are shopping for your baby’s clothes, you might want to rethink adding more.
As with clothes, it’s fun to get toys and stuff for our baby. Compared to clothes, toys clog your space more than clothes. Toys can’t be folded as clothes do. So try not to buy so much stuff.
Ask yourself, “Is this necessary? Does my baby need this?” before you buy stuff for your baby.”
Consider selling your baby’s outgrown clothes or donating them to a charity to avoid cluttering your storage. Your baby’s stuff maybe sentimental in value, but it is better to save space.
Make a Corner for Baby Essentials
Choose a corner for all of your baby’s essentials rather than making a mess all over your space. Getting this done will save you time. For example, when you’re changing your baby’s diaper, put all the essentials in one corner. It will save you a lot of time and effort if you keep wipes, powder, creams, and diapers within arm’s reach. You can also keep a garbage can nearby.
Also, keep your feeding essentials easily accessible in one place. Choose a convenient location with an easy access plug if you use appliances such as electric breast pumps, bottle warmers, and bottle sanitizers.
