Hello World! Welcome Friends! Decades pass. Times change. But there is no moment as classic as standing on your balcony sipping a cup of hot tea or coffee, looking up at the sunset and down at the kids playing in the street or park. It carries a different kind of charm altogether. Your balcony is that place which lets you taste the glamour of sunsets and the aroma of petrichor, which, by the way are not small things to have. And so, just like the rest of your house, your balcony deserves a decorative treatment once in a while. If you are interested, here are six ideas to decorate your balcony.
To start with,
1. Rustic Furniture
The balcony is an area which receives every season to the fullest, from rain to dust storms to summer’s humidity and winter’s chilly winds. The result, very often is the furniture wearing out too soon, especially if it is made of conventional materials like metal. Most metals carry high reactivity. So, the idea is not to remove the furniture overall from your balcony. Rather, for your balcony area, try keeping furniture pieces which are made of natural materials like wood, seed husks, stalks, terracotta and likewise. Green furniture isn’t just easy to maintain but to recycle too, even easier.
2. Deck Flooring
From interlocking wooden tiles to natural grassy carpets, there are a lot of options to add high-strength decorative flooring to your balcony. It also depends on the location and the size. For instance, if you’ve a half-open area terrace, you’d need to decide whether if you will use same flooring for indoors and outdoors, or you’d prefer eclectic style. For an open space, mosaic tiles are another great idea. The only thing, they get slightly slippery during monsoons.
3. Railing Planters
In addition to opening up an illusion of more space, railing planters are one of the easiest and most interesting ways to decorate a balcony. Especially for apartments or buildings which have narrow balconies, adding some railing planters is an excellent idea. Some examples of plants which you can grow in a railing planter might be geraniums, jenny, kale, annuals and succulents of course. Even more, if you’re a lover of herbs, dangle some cute short buckets on your railing and in them, grow herbs of your choice!
4. A Swinging Piece
For all those days when you just want to have some solitude, to contemplate or to be on your own, try a simple rocking chair to something beachy like a hammock. If you like to cuddle and take a nap on your balcony, a swing chair is a good idea too. For families, a full-fledged metal or wooden swing is yet another wonderful idea. So just take a cup of cappuccino or a bottle of wine, your favorite book or music album and get immersed in your own world as the cool breeze swings around your hair!
5. Lush Vertical Garden
A vertical garden is a contemporary way to design your balcony or outer space of your house. Succulent trays, clay pots, and glass planters are few of the many traditional ideas which you can use to create your own vertical garden. However, if you’re looking forward to a more eccentric appeal, you can try out some of these. Indoor herb garden, for instance is a wonderful idea if your balcony is attached to your kitchen. Another great variation of a vertical garden is to have a small water fountain for home. Especially if you have a considerably sized balcony area, try creating an indoor water fountain wall paired with greenery while dotting the rest of the space with dining chairs, tables or barbeque; what a great combination for an evening party venue!
6. Dreamy Lighting
From railing lanterns to fairy lights, good lighting can magically transform any balcony whether small or large. In case of succulents and tall plants, string lights are almost always the last resort. For the time when the sun goes down, pipe lights, candles and pendant lanterns will look sparkling to even someone watching your house from far away. And if you have a little more space, even a table topped with tiki bottle torches will cast a gorgeous appeal.
Dreamy or rustic, soft or bold, cosy or formal, which style are you planning to decorate your balcony with this year?
