Hello World! Welcome Friends! Christmas Season’s now just around the corner. The year’s been flying by, and as we’re trying to get a hold of ourselves, decorating is probably the last thing that’s on our to-do list. With the regular HVAC maintenance routines and heating checks going on, it can be easy to get lost in the technical aspect of things and forget about the aesthetics.
However, your house needs to look the part to get you in the mood for the cozy winter season, too. With that in mind, we’ve got some fun and easy tips for you to get you started — just in time for the chilly winter months and the crisp north wind to kick in.
Make the Fireplace Look More Inviting
No matter how small, your living room is an amazing little space in your house where the family truly hangs out together. If your fireplace is located in this part of the house, you can only expect it to become the hottest winter destination for everyone quite literally. So why not decorate it well enough to suit its importance?
Center your living room around the fireplace for the winter by having all the couches and a big fluffy rug all around the fireplace. Have a few plants around or over the fireplace, and go for wooden or metal tones for the rest of your decor to tie everything together.
Add Some Candles Around
Candles embody the Christmas spirit, and nothing’s cozier than a warm winter evening lit up by candles. But even when they’re not lit up in all their glory, candles are just some really pretty decorations on their own that also happen to give off homely vibes no matter where they’re placed.
You could try playing around with candles by placing them on tables around the house. If you feel like it, you can even do a little spread of them on your dining table and next to photos. Try pairing candles of varying heights and thicknesses together, too, for visual appeal.
Make Your House Smell Like a Bakery
The smells of a bakery must have some sort of magical connection with the sugarplum fairies, as just a whiff of them can transport you to basically any winter movie. Winter scents are the best way to soak in the goodness of the season, and there are more than a few ways to make your home smell like December that doesn’t involve actually baking some stuff.
You could go for scented candles or the essential oils route. But another inexpensive way to achieve the smell of cinnamon doused goodies without baking them is by simmering a pot of water with cinnamon sticks, rosemary, cranberries, orange slices, and some nutmeg. Just leave the liquid on low heat and your house will smell incredible in minutes!
Add Some Lighting to Your Doorways
Winters, especially the Christmas season, can look chilly without twinkling lights. But while you’re putting them on, make sure that you’re doing it right. And that also means putting them on in the right places, but some of the best locations to light up are your doorways!
Just line the lighting along the edges of the doorframe, and the whole place will look a lot more magical. And while we’re on the topic of lighting, try going for softer lights on lazy winter evenings — maybe just keep the glowing lights on. This makes the whole atmosphere a lot more personal and warm and helps your decor pop, too.
Add Some Love To the Christmas Tree
Soaking in the Christmas vibes works best when you’re around the tree with the people you want, so try placing it in a common space of your house if you’ve got a big family or want to have a lot of guests over. To make the tree look extra cozy, try throwing a popcorn garland or handmade ornaments on it.
Then gather around the tree with your coziest winter clothes on. Now’s the time for stocking caps, thermal layers (such as heat-trapping silk and moisture-wicking seamless socks), and thick woolen sweaters. Swap normal quilts with chunky, pastel tones to make the holiday ambiance a lot stronger.
Winter vibes seep into the house through warm clothes and winters, but it’s worth remembering that you’ll probably not have a winter that’s exactly the same as this one ever again. So feel free to spruce things up and celebrate the cold. After all, it’s pretty cozy this time of year — and you’re going to be all the happier for it!
