Hello World! Welcome Friends! As global concerns over air quality increase, more and more people are suffering from several health problems. It is a result of rising temperatures, manufacturing, transportation, and our dependence on fossil fuels like gas and oil.
Here are some of the health-related issues caused by bad air quality:
- Heart attacks
- Asthma
- Irritation in eyes and nose
- Cancer, etc.
Elderly people, pregnant women, kids, and people with respiratory diseases are at a higher risk of poor air quality. Surprisingly, there are some ways in which you can protect yourself and your family from bad outdoor air quality. So, let’s jump in:
Stay Indoors and Keep the Windows Shut
First of all, you need to shut all your windows and doors to keep the smoky air out of your home. After all, it is the only source that lets in the bad air. The next step is to use the fans to circulate the air. You can also use filters to remove the particles from the air.
Use Central Cooling
Now there might be a question spinning in your head “Is running your air conditioner safe or not?” Well, the short answer is YES.
Air conditioners also use filters for removing pollutants from the air. When your AC is on, it removes heat and circulates the indoor air. While running your central air conditioner is great, it is recommended not to turn on your window air conditioner unit as it can bring bad air inside your home.
With central cooling, you can easily recirculate the air in your home.
Wear a Mask
As air is reaching hazardous levels worldwide, it is wise to wear a mask to prevent the intake of toxic air. However, experts recommend wearing an N95 mask to remove fine particles. These fine particles may pass through the cloth mask.
When buying a mask, make sure it perfectly fits your face. It should cover your entire nose and mouth. However, if it doesn’t fit on your face, it will completely defeat the purpose.
Restrict Outdoor Activities
For the time being, avoid stepping out of your home. Restrict all the outdoor activities like running, walking, exercising, etc. The more time you spend outdoors, the more you inhale the bad air.
The reason why experts don’t recommend exercising outdoors is that physical activities tend to increase the pace of breathing. During exercise, you are more likely to breathe through your mouth, which means that you are directly inhaling the outdoor pollutants.
Bring Home Air Purifying Plants
Believe it or not, bringing in nature can work wonders for your home. Indoor air purifying plants can easily combat the air pollutants and improve the overall air quality in your home.
Some of the best air purifying plants are:
- Aloe vera
- Snake plant
- Bamboo palm
- Spider plant, etc.
These plants are easy to maintain and don’t require regular watering or sunlight.
Summing Up
Exposure to bad air quality can wreak havoc on your health, no matter if you are indoors or outside your home. By understanding the sources of pollution, you can take steps to minimize the exposure.
To sum it up, follow the tips mentioned above to protect yourself from bad air quality.
