You visited Bangkok for what was supposed to be a vacation, and you fell right in love. So after months of contemplating, you pushed the button and decided to move into this city to start a new chapter. Aside from working on meeting the legal requirements to move to Thailand, you also spent some time finding a property for rent in Bangkok.
Everything was worth it, however, because now you are finally settling in your apartment in this beautiful Asian city. The next step—turn your apartment into a home with these five tips:
1. Decide on a Theme
Just because you’re moving into a rental doesn’t mean you have to live with what’s in it. In fact, you can still add a touch of your own personality into the space by choosing a theme that will also dictate the type of decor that would be in your house. This way, you can have details around your house that reminds you of home to reduce that feeling of being homesick.
2. Maximize Your Vertical Space
Since you are living in a rental, you do not have a lot of say when it comes to the space that you have. But you can always make use of vertical space by adding floating shelves where you can put your favourite things from your home. Shelves are easy to install, and you can put them anywhere in your house where you need extra space.
3. Hang Art and Photos on Your Walls
Having photos, memorabilia, and art in your walls where you can see them is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to truly make your rental apartment feel like home. You can choose your favourite photos from your travels, family pictures, and just random things that remind you of home. Put them in different frames and hang them in your living room or bedroom to remind you of those great memories that you have back home.
4. Take Advantage of Peel-and-Stick Tiles.
Another caveat of living in an apartment is that you cannot really invest in big projects like adding cabinets or replacing tiles that you don’t like. But what you can do is to use peel-and-stick tiles to cover up tiles that you don’t like or just to add character to a boring space. For instance, you can add some subway peel-and-stick tiles to your backsplash to make your small kitchen look more chic. Or you can add patterned tiles in the bathroom to add a pop of color to the space.
5. Invest in Luxurious Bedding.
Finally, if you are going to splurge on one thing, make it luxurious bedding. Living in an apartment, you do not have a lot of freedom to really convert your space. But what you can do is to make it feel as comfortable as possible. Treat yourself to some very good bedding, so you can sleep comfortably every night just like you would back home.
