Hello World! Welcome Friends! Doing home renovations allows you to design your home to your style/desire as well as ensure you are keeping plenty of equity in your home. Updating kitchens and bathrooms are good places to increase your home’s value, but you don’t want to just handle this renovation on a whim. Should you be interested in renovating your bathroom, you need to do plenty of planning ahead of time. That’s because a bathroom renovation could be more involved than you think. If you don’t want to tackle the renovation yourself, especially possibly moving water lines, call Caldwell Plumbing to help you get the bathroom of your dreams.
Here are the five things you must consider before starting a bathroom renovation.
1. Budget
Your budget is the most important part of a bathroom renovation. If you start the project without a budget, you’ll quickly find that you are overspending, and this can be a huge issue to deal with. Instead, take the time to really think about how much money you can afford to put into your bathroom renovation. Then, be sure you give yourself a 10-20% buffer. After all, challenges may arise once you start the renovation, so you want to ensure you have enough to cover any additional expenses that could occur during the renovation.
2. Professional Services
Thanks to the popularity of home improvement shows, many homeowners have decided to take on home improvement projects themselves. While DIY projects can be a great way to get your hands dirty and even cut back on some costs, sometimes it’s not the best option, especially if you don’t know what you’re doing. According to Fix It Right Plumbing’s website, “Hiring a professional plumber to handle a job could actually be a cost savings. That’s because the professional will do it right the first time and ensure there are no underlying issues. If you opt to handle a plumbing job yourself, you could end up spending more money because of the mistakes you’ll make along the way.” If you really want your bathroom renovation project to go well, and you want to ensure it’s all up to code, it’s a good idea to consider letting a professional handle some of the work.
3. Timeline
Sometimes a bathroom renovation project can be done in a weekend, and sometimes it will take a lot more time to complete. This is why it’s important for you to really determine your timeline before you get started. For instance, if you are renovating the only bathroom in the house, you’ll need to have this project completed quickly, especially if it involves showers or toilets. However, if you have multiple bathrooms in your home, it’s possible that your timeline could be a little longer. Just be sure you have a clear understanding of what your timeline is before you get started.
4. Renovation Needs
Sometimes a bathroom renovation only includes swapping out a vanity and changing some lighting, but sometimes it means gutting the entire bathroom and building from scratch. Before you start your project, it’s a good idea to know what type of renovation you’re getting into. Are you looking for something quick and simple, or do you want to re-do your entire bathroom? Knowing this will help you determine your budget as well as your timeline for the specific project.
In addition, knowing your renovation needs can help you determine the style for your bathroom. For instance, if you need a new shower, you will need to determine if you want to tile the shower or opt for a pre-built surround. In addition, if you need a new vanity, you’ll need to determine if you need to buy a new one or if you can repurpose the one you already have. Knowing all of this up front will help you make the best decisions for your bathroom renovation project.
5. Design
If you are remodeling the entire bathroom, you’ll want to factor in the design right away. This means drawing out the plans for the bathroom and ensuring everything will fit where you want it to. For instance, you don’t want your toilet to be too close to the shower or the door so that it’s impossible to get into the bathroom. When you’re strategic about your design, it will help your renovation go smoother. And if you have any questions about layout, it may be a sign you should consider hiring a professional to do the job like Portland Stucco and Plastering.
Renovating a bathroom can help you earn more equity in your home, but it’s very important for you to follow these tips to ensure your bathroom renovation project runs smoothly.

Kathryn,
Thanks for this list – these are good things to think about for any kind of renovation! We’re currently considering finishing our attic space and will be taking all of the above into account.

Thank you for this post Kathryn! This is so helpful for future renovation projects. I had been going back and forth debating whether or not I should just go the DIY way to paint my kitchen cabinets or hire a professional cabinet painter near me and I am SO GRATEFUL I went with the second option. They did a better job than I ever could have and I know if I had tried it I would have ended up hiring someone to do it again within the year to fix my mistakes. Plus I know with the finishing they use it will last for a lot longer.

Thanks for providing some great planning ideas, before tackling a project such as this bathroom remodel. While this is pretty high-end renovation work – most homeowners can probably pull this off with the help of some very skilled trades – outstanding photos
Thanks again!
