Hello World! Welcome Friends! Moving house can be a momentous occasion. It’s a time when you get to say goodbye to what’s familiar and set out on a new adventure with your family or loved ones. However, it doesn’t take long until the stress, and ever-growing to-do list takes over the excitement. If there’s anything that’s going to make moving day go a little smoother, it’s the five following things.
Organize the Kids
Before moving day, it’s crucial to enroll and familiarize your children with their respective schools and early learning centers. The more they know about where they’re going, the easier the transition can be. For young children, it’s a good idea to include plenty of references to their new education facility into your everyday conversations.
“Jimmy, isn’t it going to be exciting to use your new lunchbox at your new school?” or “Tommy, when we meet your new friends at your new school, you can tell them all about your cool new bedroom.” Throwing information into everyday conversations will also help to cement the impending changes in their life.
Utilities and Mail
You never realize how many services you receive until you need to make sure all the documentation goes to your new address. Fortunately, changing your address with the US Postal Service, among others, is an effortless process. However, the best way to approach it is by compiling a list of services, such as power, cable TV, and gas, their respective providers, and contact information for how to make the switch. Aim to organize all of this before you move.
The Laws of Labeling
The average household of two people with young children will need at least 50 boxes, if not more, to move an entire house. Imagine how much of a nightmare it would be to move all those boxes into your new home if you don’t label them? As soon as you begin packing, make sure you have a roll of tape and a permanent marker handy.
As you pack up each room, put a piece of tape securely on the box and write the contents. By using tape, you can reuse the boxes without the previous label confusing you.
Don’t Forget the Pets
Moving house is as stressful for your pets as it is for you. They go from being able to lounge around on any furniture, to aimlessly walking around an empty house, wondering where everything is. Make sure you have made travel arrangements for your pet, and ensure your new home is as comfortable for them as your current one is. If your pets do not travel well, contact your vet to find out if there are any stress-relieving medications available.
Packaging Pandemonium
Everyone has a horror story relating to moving furniture, but there is a way to avoid it. Make sure you cover and secure expensive furniture with blankets and other soft covers. Protect sharp ends and delicate surfaces, and don’t pile heavy items on top of light ones. If you are hiring a moving company, make sure it’s a reputable one with glowing reviews to back it up. The last thing you want is to arrive at your new home with all your furniture in kindling-size pieces!
No one ever looks back to the day they moved houses fondly. All they remember is the sweat, backache, and stress of ensuring everyone is accounted for. However, if you plan your children’s learning center and school visits in advance and package properly, you can be on your way to a moving day that goes off without a hitch.
