Hello World! Welcome Friends! Now that you’ve planted your spring garden, it’s time to start thinking about summer garden maintenance. If you want to see those beautiful blooms and tasty veggies popping up later in the year, you’ll need to do a little grunt work.
5 Summer Garden Tips
Summer Garden Tips
Keep Potted Plants Cool
If you have planters outside, especially those made of terra-cotta, you’ll want to ensure those plants don’t overheat in direct sunlight. Position your planters in locations that get morning sun but not afternoon. Standing water in planters can attract mosquitoes as well. Add a little sand to your saucers and place your planters on top. Keep the sand moist throughout the summer.
Water Plants Early
When it gets hot outside during the summer, the last thing you want to think about at 3:00 p.m. is watering your garden. Do your watering and other necessary external jobs around your property in the morning when the sun is lower, and things haven’t started to heat up just yet. Watering early also prevents mildew by allowing plants to dry out before the sun goes down.
Protect Young Plants From the Harsh Sun
Young vegetable and flower seedlings may react negatively to direct sunlight in their first few weeks. They need to become sun-hardened before they’re exposed to that much sunlight. Shelter new plants with cloth (50% shade cloth works great), old net curtains or leafy branches for a week or two.
Mulch is Your Garden’s Friend
As much as you probably want to avoid mulching, it really is a good idea, especially if you live in a moist region. Mulch keeps the soil cool and conserves water. It also stops heavy rains from washing away any fertilizer you add to your garden (which you should also consider).
Weeding, Weeding, and More Weeding
Weeding is not the most glamorous gardening activity, but it’s one of the most essential. Weeds love the summer sun and will grow to gargantuan size in a short period. Pull weeds from your garden to prevent them from stealing moisture and nutrients from your plants.
All you have to do is weed, water, and watch as those lovely blooms appear over the next few months. Your beautiful, summer garden is just around the corner. With a little grunt work, it will be your pride and joy this season.

The garden area should be maintained regularly and should undergo rigorous maintenance every four months. This is to prevent insects and termites infestation which can cause significant damage in infrastructure. The landscape of a house should also be in good appearance to help preserve your property’s value.

Very simple yet very important tips. But I say…
Weeds. Weeds. Weeds. I so hate weeds but I am too lazy for weeding that I let them grow along with my plants then pull them out when they are getting bigger than my plants. I hope I get over this laziness.

You make some great points about watering, weeding, and watching. I am little lax on the weeding part, and in the south where I live, we have been have really sporadic rainfall all summer so that hasn’t helped at all. Thanks for sharing the tips.
