Hello World! Welcome Friends! While everyone may desire to access safe and clean water for drinking and domestic use, that is not always the case. According to a recent survey, about 55% of Americans expressed great concerns about the pollution of drinking water. If you have a similar problem, follow these simple tips to improve the water quality in your home.
Test Your Water Regularly
The best starting point for improving your home’s water quality is to conduct tests. This will help you determine if your water is contaminated with harmful chemicals and help you find the right solution. The initial step in the mitigation process is to check the water color, taste, and odor.
You can use a testing kit to check the water hardness levels and contaminants. If you realize your water is unsafe to use, talk to your plumber to help you develop effective corrective measures.
Invest in a Water Treatment System
Investing in a reverse osmosis water filter is one of the easiest kitchen upgrades to improve your cooking and drinking water. This water treatment and purification system uses a semi-permeable membrane to remove contaminants, dirt, sediments, micro-organisms, and unwanted molecules from drinking water.
Consider installing a water-softening system in your entire house to reduce water hardness. Hard water can clog faucets and showerheads, cause scale build-up on appliances, lead to scratchy linens, and restrict water flow through piping. Consider adding an ultrafiltration system and softeners to your whole house supply to remove unwanted magnesium and calcium ions that trigger scaling in water.
Replace Older Water Pipes
Most older homes’ plumbing features iron or galvanized steel pipes. Such materials corrode, pit, and degrade over time, causing water leaks and increasing the chances of contamination. Consider substituting the old piping with newer copper piping material. You can use ProPress fittings to connect the piping or solder it. CPVC, PVC, and PEX piping can do the trick if you can’t access copper.
Make it a habit to check the piping material connecting to your appliances to ensure it is burst-resistant and holds up well against high pressure to prevent unwanted breakdowns. You can also install bypass and shut-off valves to prevent water from entering certain rooms when appliances are under maintenance.
Eliminate Water Leaks
Residential water leaks not only lead to waste but also house damage and fungus growth. Schedule regular home inspections and check underneath sinks for corroded pipe connections, damp spots, and smells to catch leaks before they start causing damage.
Check your faucets for leakage and repair accordingly. A dripping faucet can cause a wastage of more than 3,000 water gallons each year. As you fix the water leakage and monitor pipes, keep an eye on your utility bills. A sudden rise in water usage could be a sign of an underlying problem.
Improve Your Garden’s Water
If you are committed to organic farming, then you must pay attention to the kind of water you use in your garden. Normal tap water often contains disinfectant chemicals designed to deal with organic matter. By watering your yard with tap water, you coat the fruits and vegetables with these chemicals.
Consider using a carbon filtration system to reduce disinfection products, solvents, organic chemicals, and more from your water before watering your garden. A sump pump can be used to prevent flooding resulting from rainwater, and the garden’s wet, soggy areas can be utilized effectively.
If your home’s water quality is compromised, your entire family’s health is at risk. This is the right time to act. Perform a water quality test, find the most suitable water treatment system, prevent leaks, and replace the old plumbing system. Also, ensure you filter the water you use in your garden.
