Hello World! Welcome Friends! Kitchens are one of the most-used rooms in a home. Along with cooking in the kitchen, many people eat in their kitchen and tons of people socialize or entertain when they’re in the kitchen. When they aren’t productive, they quickly become a part of the home that needs to change. Whether you’re planning a full remodel or just looking for ways to make your kitchen look better, follow these 5 rules of kitchen design.
5 Rules to Follow When Designing Your Kitchen
Add Unique Prints to the Bare Walls
While there may be plenty of cabinets in the kitchen, most have some space on the walls that’s bare. Use a painting or print to create a visual break from all of the cabinets and cooking equipment and to add a pop of color in the room. Check out acrylic printing styles to find the right one for the kitchen. If there’s enough room, use a few different but related prints in similar colors to create a theme for the kitchen.
Make it Easy to Unpack Groceries
During a full remodel, make sure the kitchen is set up so it’s easy to get the groceries into the house and unpack everything. If a full remodel isn’t planned, look at the counters to see what can be moved or put away to make unpacking groceries much easier. If the counters near the fridge and pantry are clear, it really helps to make unpacking everything and putting it away less of a hassle.
Follow the Work Triangle Rule
The work triangle is something that can’t be fixed without a remodel, but it is a good idea to keep it in mind for when the kitchen needs to be upgraded. The work triangle is an interior design theory based on how everything flows in the kitchen. The sink, refrigerator, and the stove should be in a triangle and should be spaced small enough to make reaching them easier without making it difficult for 2 people to be in the kitchen together.
Avoid Large Amounts of Dark Colors
Dark colors can make a room seem a lot smaller than it is. When you’re purchasing or painting kitchen cabinets, avoid choosing dark colors even though they are trending right now. Instead, choose lighter colors for the big spaces like cabinets, walls, backsplashes, and flooring. Use darker colored appliances and accessories so they stand out more. A neutral color is typically the best option for larger spaces like cabinets and floors.
Make it Easy to Keep Clean
Make sure the entire kitchen is easier to clean after a meal. Place the trash can near the sink and dishwasher so plates can be rinsed and washed easily. The right placement makes it very easy to clean everything after a meal so the cleaning gets done and nothing will pile up in the kitchen. Keeping the trash can nearby and strategically placing cleaning supplies can help keep the countertops clean as well.
If you’re planning on remodeling your kitchen, whether you just want a little bit of a change or you’re planning on a full renovation, use these tips to make your kitchen work better for you. Today’s kitchen areas are transgressing from a place just for cooking meals and morphing into becoming the heart of any home. In many houses, a kitchen wears multiple hats – from family huddle to banter over coffee, from creating new recipes to cooking meals together – it’s become a place for fun family activities.
