Hello World! Welcome Friends! Reading the Bible has been a treasured faith experience for centuries, but with the advancement of technology, the way we experience the Bible has changed dramatically. Now, instead of only written text we have full-production audiobooks; complete with an ensemble cast, musical score, and the production value of a big-time film. These productions bring the world’s greatest story to life in ways you never thought possible, bringing us closer to both the characters and to God’s word.
If you’ve never experienced the journey that is listening to an audiobook, it’s time you get started. Here are five reasons to listen to a Bible audiobook.
1. The Characters Come To Life
It’s easy to imagine the characters within the Bible and the struggles they face, but with an audio production, the characters actually come to life. Imagine your favorite actors voicing such iconic characters as Moses and Jesus Christ. In one such production, James Earl Jones Reads the Bible, the iconic voice of Darth Vader and Mufasa embodies each character in the Bible, and provides a stunning narration that will leave you breathless.
A good story is one where we can identify with the characters in it, and sometimes, it’s a bit difficult to identify with a character who’s thousands of years old. That’s why hearing the character embodied by someone with some acting talent is such an experience! Plus, the more you can identify with that character, the more you’ll value the lessons they teach you with their story.
Maybe you don’t actually understand Noah until you hear someone else read his story and act out his character. Now, you understand the burden he bore being chosen by God to save himself and his family among all of the world’s sinners.
2. Understanding God’s Word
As it is difficult to understand certain characters in the Bible, it can sometimes be difficult to understand God’s word as well. That’s why we often depend on our pastors to interpret the Word for us, but they’re not always around. This is where an audio Bible production comes in handy, because instead of reading the Word, you’re experiencing it. A full audio production takes on a life of its own, allowing you to step inside of the story instead of reading from the outside in. Have you ever read a book and didn’t quite understand it, but when you heard someone else read it, it was more comprehensible?
This can happen sometimes, and it’s no fault of the reader—sometimes things just make more sense when they’re coming from someone else. Before the written word, oral storytelling was one of the prime sources of information and folklore for mankind, and that tradition continues even to this day with audiobooks.
3. The Production Value
If you listen to an audio production for no other reason, at least do so for the production value. There are a few that come to mind when we talk about this aspect, including the James Earl Jones Audio Bible, the Word of Promise audio Bible, and the Inspired By Bible Experience.
It’s almost like listening to the radio plays of old, and each has the production value of a feature film. Sure, there have been movies made about the Bible, but there’s something different about hearing the actual text read and acted out.
4. On-The-Go
Let’s be honest—we all live busy lives, and reading a centuries-old epic isn’t exactly light reading. Sometimes, it’s just overwhelming or we don’t have the time. That’s where audiobooks come in handy. They come in CD format or can be downloaded on a digital platform for on-the-go listening anytime, anywhere.
Making time to read in our busy, modern schedules doesn’t always work out as we want. With kids, work, and needing time to actually relax and take a breather, you might find that audiobooks are far more convenient for you.
5. The Lessons Are Still The Same
Some people turn away from audiobooks simply because they feel a part of the lesson or gist of the story is lost if you’re not reading it. Truthfully, this comes down to personal preference, as the producers of these Bible audio productions give special attention to detail. You’ll still get the same story, the same lessons, and the Word will remain the same; you’re just hearing it through someone else’s voice.
Don’t let such things keep you from experiencing something new! You might find that you actually prefer the audio version. Who wouldn’t enjoy an ensemble cast, musical score, and production value akin to a feature-length film?
