Hello World! Welcome Friends! Whether you are a backyard gardener, prefer container gardening, or enjoy watching your indoor plants thrive, there are essential gardening tips from which anyone with a green thumb can benefit. And, no matter what type of gardener you identify as, you can testify that gardening is hard work that can sometimes physically take a toll on you. While it’s easy to learn tips on choosing the best soil, when to plant certain flowers or vegetables, and even the ins and outs of drip irrigation, you may also be searching for ways to soothe your aching muscles at the end of a long day’s work. Keep reading for some practical tips you can put in place today to keep a spring in your step and guarantee plenty of energy to continue your passion for gardening.
Epsom Salts
One of the best things you can do at the end of a long day is to take a long, peaceful bath. While a shower may be necessary before your bath to remove any obvious dirt and grime from working hard, so your bath water stays clean – the bath is still important. Soaking in a bath full of Epsom salts which contain Magnesium, is excellent for soothing sore muscles. Countless studies have shown that the sulfur, oxygen, and Magnesium in Epsom salts are one of the best and fastest remedies for muscle pain and soreness.
Exercising
You may think that exercising after you’ve spent hours gardening is counterintuitive to easing aches and pain, but the opposite is true. Sometimes, stretching the body through gentle exercise can do more than any herbal or pharmaceutical product can to alleviate muscle soreness. Many exercises reduce these types of aches, specifically yoga, and pilates. Try one for half an hour next time you come in from your garden, and you’ll feel right as rain.
Cooling Comforter
Sleep is essential for overall health and wellness; it restores our brains and mental well-being and is also essential for physical wellness. Though you may feel achy when you head to bed, with the right bedroom set up, you’ll wake feeling refreshed physically, and your aches will be long gone. A huge part of sleep success is investing in high-quality mattresses and bedding. A cooling comforter is key to a good night’s sleep, as our natural circadian rhythm counts on lower temperatures to function properly. Cooling comforters help in that regard, but if you find yourself tossing and turning all night because you’re too warm, these comforters can regulate your body temperature keeping you in a deep sleep all night. Quality sleep also impacts our longevity, so investing in things that promote quality sleep means you’ll enjoy gardening for years to come.
Raw Onions
Growing something that may alleviate your aches and pains as a gardener is a win/win in anyone’s book. Raw onions may be the answer to your sore muscles, which could be in your backyard. Onions contain various vitamins and minerals that have been shown to reduce pain, specifically inflammatory pain, which is what muscle aches are. Onions are also rife with antioxidants, which help keep your body (and muscles) in good health by renewing cells and rebuilding tissues. Consuming raw onions regularly will also stave off muscle aches.
Coffee
Not only do you suffer some soreness after gardening, but you could also feel a little tired, so kill two birds with one stone by enjoying a fresh cup of coffee. Coffee has been shown to relieve muscle pains through its ability to block adenosine, a compound that can cause pain. Some studies have shown that drinking coffee before workouts – or in this case, a long day of gardening – may prevent or reduce muscle soreness.
Other natural methods to help soothe your post-gardening aches like drinking tart cherry juice, beet juice, or even mindfulness through meditation. All the techniques mentioned above will benefit your aches and pains and your overall wellness. One of the best parts of being an avid gardener is controlling the food quality. A healthy diet combined with quality sleep and other healthy habits will keep you in the best shape possible and ensure you can continue gardening (whether it’s a hobby or your income) for a long time. Here’s to your health!

I just started my exercise yesterday and my legs and arms are sore today but not that really hard, I can still stand. Since I can’t do another work out, I’m planning to just dance and stretch. Thank you for this!
