Hello World! Interior decorating trends are always changing. Whether you’re moving into a new place, renovating an old house, or just adding a few current design details to your home, paying attention to what’s new can guide you in the right direction. Check out these five trends that have been huge in 2016.
1. Kitchens With Variety
In a modern kitchen, variety goes a long way to make a design statement. Instead of having predictable or dated materials, mix it up with a combination of textures and colors. To accomplish this, add a surprising backsplash, two-tone cabinetry, or unique appliances. Instead of your basic stainless steel appliances, consider alternative finishes such as black or bronze.
2. Splashy Bathrooms
Converting a dated or humdrum bathroom can make a big difference in the allure of a home. Some ways to modernize a bathroom include adding mirrors that make a statement. Instead of an ordinary medicine cabinet, check out vintage medicine cabinets or mirrors in unique shapes. Adding colorful tile can also give the bathroom some personality. If you add framed artwork to this room that often plays second fiddle to the rest of the house, you can elevate its appearance.
3. No-Tech Living Rooms
Technology plays a large part in modern living, but homeowners are realizing they need a haven away from screen time for balance. Tech-free spaces are being created in homes to offer areas for family time, reading, meditating, and socializing. In these rooms, instead of the focal point being a big screen, fireplaces, picture windows, and artwork become center stage.
4. Texture in the Bedroom
Texture can definitely jazz up a bedroom. Of course, painting a wall in a dramatic color can go a long way in adding warmth and depth, but bold additions of texture can also pack a punch. For example, rustic wood paneling on walls or ceilings can give a natural feel to the room. Unique flooring, such as hand-painted ceramic tile, adds sophistication to the boudoir.
5. Mixed Materials in Stairways
Mixing materials, just like in the rest of the house, can revitalize stairways. Instead of just having carpeted or wooden stairs, consider combining glass and metal railings with wooden steps like these, to make a 2016 design statement. Adding colorful tile or paint to risers can also freshen up stairs’ appearance.
By keeping aware of interior design trends, you can ignite your own creativity. Decide for yourself which ones you love and want to add to your home to keep it looking current.
Thank you for stopping by! Have a lovely evening! Go with God and remember to be kind to one another!

Oh gosh, we are about to build a house and that technology issue is a big one! The builder is telling us that everyone puts their tv above the fireplace now so I’m considering that. We love our technology but it’s not always pretty.

I’ve seen a lot of these trends in new homes, and I personally love the idea of a tech-free living room most. It provides the perfect environment for your friends and family to talk and really engage in each other’s company without any technological distractions. Nice overview! Thanks for posting this!
