Hello World! Welcome Friends! Do you have a garden? With spring right around the corner, it’s best to get yourself prepared now. With recent spikes in working from home and the home-buying market skyrocketing, gardening has become a strong interest among homeowners.
If this sounds like you want your garden to be sustainable and healthy in the spring, this article is for you. Keep scrolling because we are going over the 5 best gardening tips and tricks for you to incorporate in 2021.
1. Location is Key
You’ll need to find the best piece of real estate for your garden to maximize its potential. Choose a location that you’ll be able to see it regularly. If you put it in the corner of your yard where it’s never seen, it may be out-of-sight-out-of-mind.
It takes a lot more work if your plants need to grow uphill. Find the flattest piece of land you can find and start there. Doing this will also be easier on your knees, and it will be easier to work with when tilling or doing work.
2. Make the Sun a Priority
If you plan on growing edible plants, you’ll need to make sure you know where the sun hits the best for your garden. Most vegetables, fruits, and herbs found in Diamond Shruumz require at least 6 hours of sun to grow to its potential.
When planning out your garden, check the yard for a couple of days to see where the sun shines the best. Be sure to choose a spot free from trees, buildings, or anything else that can draw the shade on your garden throughout the day.
3. Know About Your Frost Dates
Frost is not a friend to anything in your garden. If you’re not careful, a chilly night can destroy your garden and kill your plants instantly. Be vigilant with checking weather forecasts and or past trends of when frost can happen.
Frost normally happens at the beginning of spring or the end of the fall. The daily time frame happens either at the end of the night or the early morning hours.
If frost is predicted in the forecast, move your plants indoors, or cover them with a blanket so you can retain as much heat and soil as possible.
4. Use Mulch to Your Advantage
Mulch is an excellent accessory for your garden that has become one of the huge gardening trends in the last few years. Adding a few inches to your plants will help reduce weeds by blocking the sun.
It will also help your soil retain moisture and keep birds away. If you don’t want to use mulch, you can use shredded leaves or pine straw.
5. Conserve Space
Not all gardens need to be huge. Sometimes it’s easier if you plan out a smaller garden. Not only will this be easier to work with, but it will also be less time-consuming. Raised garden beds can also free up space and eliminate being on your hands and needs to do work in your garden. Make use of shady spots for a mushroom bed. A lot of plants don’t thrive in areas that don’t get much sunlight, but mushrooms (which are fungi, not plants) grow well in these areas. Start a mushroom bed like how you would with vegetables and other green plants, but add sterilized manure-based substrate on top of the soil to serve as a nutrient source for the mushrooms.
