Hello World! Welcome Friends! Home improvement projects are a great way to upgrade the value and functionality of your home, and the jigsaw is perhaps the most versatile tool to use for these projects. We share five simple home improvement projects that you can use a jigsaw for.
Make an Address Sign
As a homeowner, curb appeal is a big deal. One great way to up the first impression your home gives off is to make your own custom address sign. Jigsaws are the perfect tool for curved cuts, and making wood numbers for your address is a simple way to put this tool to use.
Pick a softer wood so that it is easy to cut, and trace the letters before you get started with your cuts. Its best to mount the wood letters onto a piece of wood for the backing. Add some paint to make the letters stand out!
Add Shelving
Whether the living room or a bedroom, shelves are a fantastic addition that serve multiple purposes. For starters, shelving is highly functional, giving you valuable storage space that you wouldn’t otherwise have. Additionally, if done right, they add to the look of the room, improving the aesthetic.
The best part is that shelves are relatively easy to make with a jigsaw. And, there are a lot of different types of shelves you can design:
- Go rustic and reuse a piece of pallet wood. You can use this type of wood to create flat shelves in your kitchen for spices, or in the living room to feature plants.
- Add a stylish hexagon shelve to a bedroom. This stylish type of shelving is actually very easy to make, given how fashionable it is.
You can use a jigsaw for most shelves, and all you’ll need in addition is your wood of choice, screws, wood glue, and fasteners.
Make an End Table
Furniture is a great way to upgrade the look and feel of any room, and it doubles with increased functionality. An end table adds a lot of utility and isn’t very hard to build. The best type of end table to build for this situation would be a rough cut pallet wood option. This style allows you to utilize the jigsaw at its best: fast cuts that allow you to assemble a table in no time. You can use 2×4’s and pallet wood to construct this table. Sand the wood down for a smoother feel, and paint or stain it to finish it off.
Build a Planter Box
We’ve already talked about a project to improve your front yard, and this next project will upgrade your back yard. Grow your own vegetables or flowers by adding a simple DIY planter box to your backyard. Planter boxes can be built in a variety of different ways. You can build in-ground boxes, which are the simplest option. A jigsaw will make short work of these rectangular plywood boxes.
Or, opt to build above ground planters that are more stylish and mobile. Make sure to finish the outside of the wood so that it won’t weather as quickly.
Install Laminate Flooring
New flooring will improve your home instantly, and laminate floors are simple and easy to install. As a bonus, laminate is super cheap in comparison to other types of flooring. Laminate flooring is easy to install because it comes in a tongue-and-groove style. Rather than needing grout, you can simply affix the floor planks together. You will need to cut the laminate planks to size, which a jigsaw is great for. Make sure to use a guide for your cuts, so that the planks come out accurate.
