Hello World! Today I’m all about my back garden. The reason is because The Dedicated Daughter’s birthday party is this Saturday and we have been busy getting the back garden all spruced up for the party.
Many people who live in the city do not have the luxury of a garden. This means if you are lucky enough to have a garden, you should take care of it and most importantly make the most of it. One of the best features you can have in a garden is a pond. While they do require maintenance, ponds can benefit your garden and you in many ways. Here are just a few of the things ponds can do to make your garden more pleasant.
They create a relaxing environment
Sometimes you just want to escape from everyday life and have some time to yourself to reflect and unwind. Having a pond in your garden is like having your own little world which you’ve created, and it’s a great place to go to relax and focus on something else. The sound of trickling water can help to make the atmosphere more peaceful, and the motions of the fish and other pond life can be very soothing. They’re great for people who are easily stressed out.
They attract wildlife
If you like the idea of welcoming wildlife into your garden, then a pond is the way to do it. Once you have a pond, you’ll find that many more animals are visiting your garden, and there will be a lot of wildlife that you wouldn’t have had before, such as a variety of insects, frogs, birds, racoons and even deer if they have access. Birds and other animals will come to your pond to drink from and bathe in it, and some will be attracted by the life in your pond which they will want to feed on. If you want to protect your pond life from predators, you can cover the pond with netting, although this will make it less picturesque.
A pond is a magical area in your garden which differs from the rest of it, partly because it has its own climate. You can place plants near your pond that may not survive elsewhere in the garden because they will get extra humidity from the water and they’ll be able to enjoy extra sunlight due to the reflection from the water. The water in a pond can stabilise temperature and a large pond can even help to protect the plants near it from frost.
They reduce mosquitoes and other insects
If you are troubled by mosquitoes, then having a pond can help you to get rid of this problem. Some types of fish like to feed on mosquito larva, and by putting these in your pond, you will find that the mosquito numbers in your garden will decrease. Koi are an example of a fish that feeds on mosquito larva, but there are also little fish similar to minnows which are also known as “mosquito eaters”.
They can be a fun ongoing project
When you install a pond in your garden, it doesn’t have to end there. You can add and remove fish from it and decorate it with different plants and features. You can build a wall around it, surround it with gravel and more. In fact, you can do whatever you want with it because there are countless ways you can decorate your garden, and there are lots of different statues, ornaments, plants and more you can use to decorate it. Your pond can become your new passion, and spending time working on it can give you a sense of achievement and pride, as well as peace.
Ponds do require maintenance, but the rewards are worth it and they are not difficult to set up when you know how. You can get all the equipment you need from the Swallow Aquatics Oase range which includes lots of products from the brand Oase which specialises in pond care.
Wish me well as I head back out to the garden. Thanks for popping in to take a look. Have a great rest of the day ad remember to be kind to one another! Fear Not!
Toodles,
Kathryn
