Hello World! Welcome Friends! Even if you do not like to cook, the kitchen is one area of the home that you are bound to spend a lot of time in. One of the best ways to improve the value of your home is with a full kitchen renovation. Unfortunately, the only way to add value is to spend money, but we have some tips for you on how you can save money on your kitchen renovation. You can accomplish your goals for your kitchen remodel without breaking the bank.
Having a budget for your kitchen renovation can help you to determine which areas to invest the most money into. Saving money does not have to mean settling for low-quality work or products. Being frugal with your expenses for a kitchen renovation involves getting the most bang for your buck and knowing which areas are the most important to you. Here are five ways that you can save money on your kitchen renovation while creating your dream kitchen in Vancouver.
1. How to Save Money on New Cabinets
One of the biggest expenses that you will encounter during your full kitchen remodel is replacing or remodeling the cabinets. The cabinets are one of the most prevalent parts of the kitchen both visually and functionally, so it goes without saying that this is an area that many people focus on and invest money into.
If you want to save money on new cabinets we recommend going with “ready-to-assemble” cabinets. Compared with custom-made cabinets, ready-to-assemble cabinets can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars. Depending on what kind of material the cabinets are made out of and what style of carpentry is used, custom cabinets can cost over $10,000.
For some people, having new cabinets is not worth the astronomical prices of custom carpentry. You can find ready-to-assemble cabinets in many styles which are sure to match your interior design preferences, and you do not have to pay the premium prices for custom designs. The downside to using ready-to-assemble cabinets straight off the shelf is that because they are not custom-designed for your kitchen, they may require some additional fitting which could waste space.
You may need the help of a contractor to install ready-to-assemble cabinets, but if you are good with your hands and have the experience (and patience for) DIY renovations, then you can probably get away with installing them yourself.
Another way to save money on new cabinets is to simply renovate the cabinets that you already have instead of replacing them. If the cabinets you have are good quality, then a paint job or a fresh coat of polish can be a cost-effective way to improve the look of the cabinets for an updated kitchen.
2. How to Save Money on Countertops
Along with cabinets, new countertops can be another big expense when it comes to renovating a kitchen. The countertops are one area where we recommend spending more money. Granite, quartz, and stone countertops can raise the value of your home. Shopping around for different materials until you find one that is the right blend of value, beauty, and functionality will go a long way.
There is a huge range of materials that are used for countertops in modern kitchens. Recycled materials are a popular new kind of countertops. Granite countertops are considered top-of-the-line, but they also come with a top-of-the-line price tag. One way to save money on your countertops is to use two different types of materials. For example, making the kitchen island granite and using laminate for the rest of the counters. This way you can have your cake and eat it too, and by that we mean you still get the granite that you want while also cutting the cost in half by using less material.
If stone countertops are on your wishlist, then quartz (manufactured stone) countertops can be a great investment. The upkeep for manufactured stone countertops is less intensive than natural granite which keeps maintenance costs low. You can find a quality selection of quartz countertops by clicking here.
3. How to Plan Your Renovation to Save the Most Money
When you are on a tight budget for your kitchen renovation it may not be wise to try to do everything at once. Carefully planning your renovation in stages that work for your budget can help you not overload yourself with renovation expenses all at once. By spreading out the stages of renovation you have time in between each one to save up money for the next.
Planning the renovation in stages in this way can be tricky though. It does not make sense to repaint a wall that you are going to tear down at a later date. For this reason, it is important to plan the renovation stages carefully in a way that makes sense so that you are not wasteful of time and materials. Things such as adding glass to cabinets or putting up a backsplash are projects that can be saved for a later time.
4. How to Save Money on Lighting and Appliances
The last area that we are going to look at is the lighting and the appliances. Moving or adding new lighting and appliances can require that holes be cut into the wall, making the process timely and expensive. By keeping appliances in the same place during the renovation you can cut back on the overall costs. The mechanics of lighting and appliances will require rewiring and be a costly project, which is why leaving things in the same place is recommended for the most cost-effective remodel.
When it comes to lighting, it is advisable to use track lighting instead of recessed lighting. Recessed lighting requires cutting into the ceiling and can end up being a more intensive project than people realize. By using track lighting you can add additional light without adding electrical wiring and holes to the ceiling.

These are great ideas! People don’t always talk about the ways that you can save money on kitchen remodels; instead they talk about all the crazy ways you can make your kitchen look by doing a remodel. One thing I would add is that you don’t necessarily have to replace or paint your kitchen cabinets for them to look nice. If they are looking worn or faded, you could just have your cabinets refinished to get them back to their original beauty. Just a thought. 🙂
