Hello World! Welcome Friends! One of the best things about owning a home is having a nice lawn to enjoy during the warm months. If there are children in the family, a lawn is even more important to give them a safe place to play outdoors in the fresh air. But, that lawn must be kept safe for the children. The parents can do a few things to childproof any lawn for their children.

Start With The Right Grass and Weed Control
To start the growing season with lawn safety in mind, consider hydroseeding an organic-based lawn care products and services. People in Rhode Island and Massachusetts can hire a company such as Simply Safer Premium Lawn Care to get the lawn seeded with the correct grass and then maintained with organic-based products so the whole family can enjoy the lawn safely. There are safe organic weed and insect control products available.
Hiring a lawn care company saves the busy homeowner time that can be used to enjoy with the family. Especially for homeowners who have not had lawn care experience, lawn care services are a good idea. The new homeowner can learn from the experts so they can eventually take over part or all of the lawn care themselves or they can leave the work to the professionals.
Child Proofing the Lawn
Parents who want to make the lawn safe for small children to play in can take 4 basic steps to childproof the lawn.
- Walk the lawn and its perimeter and clean up any debris, such as branches, brush, leaf piles, poisonous plants, or sharp objects. Remove any possible hazards, such as garden tools or dangerous insect nests. Look for holes that can cause children to trip and fill them in.
- Consider fencing the yard to create safe boundaries for the children. Where fencing is not possible, designate boundaries the children know they can not go past.
- Buy safe outdoor toys and furniture for the children and keep it in a good, safe condition by inspecting it often. Play stations, slides, swings, climbing walls, and other outdoor toys should meet ASTM safety standards. Avoid having trampolines because they are not safe and many injuries are attributed to them. Sandboxes should be filled with clean sand that is free of bugs or animal droppings.
- Children need to be supervised when they are outside playing in the yard. Children don’t know how to recognize dangerous situations. They may get dehydrated, sunburned, or suffer insect bites if an adult is not there to take care of them. Also, an adult should be close in case of an injury, such as a fall, to care for the child right away. Before the children start to play, the parent should survey the lawn area for new hazards and remove them. This can include insect nests appearing in or around playhouses, forts, or other play structures or snakes and other animals hiding in or under outdoor toys or furniture.
In Addition To A Childproofed Lawn, Have Safety Rules In Place
Once the lawn is safe and ready for children to play safely, teach the children basic safety rules like using the play equipment according to directions, not chasing or pushing or roughhousing while using slides, swings, or climbing walls, and staying in the designated safe areas where they can be seen by the supervising parent. Dress the children for safety with closed-toed shoes and properly fitted clothing that won’t get caught in play equipment.
