Hello World! Welcome Friends! A new season is always something to celebrate. 2019 is almost over and some of the most anticipated holidays of the year are coming as Autumn makes it graceful entrance. Are you one of those people who love decorating your living space to fit in with the season? Then continue reading.
If you’re that person who keeps on putting off house projects because you think it’s out of your budget, all the DIY listed below are cheap and easy. Now that you’ve run out of excuses, proceed to the fall decorating ideas below:
But First, Declutter
If you have too much stuff lying around the house, it is better to declutter first. It’s not a good look to put your handmade decorations next to an untidy pile of books, paper, and trinkets. This is an opportunity to deep clean the house as well.
If you don’t want to put most of the items in storage for the lack of space or because you just don’t want to, you can either give them away, donate, or sell them online. If you have some collector’s items or things with a bit of value, it can be a source of passive income, so it’s a win-win situation for you.
Maple Leaf Garland
For this tutorial, you need to head over to your local dollar store and buy a bag of artificial leaves. You can experiment with using real fallen leaves, but they won’t last as long as the fake ones. You’ll also need glue, glitter, paintbrush, and ribbons.
The directions are simple. Apply glue on the leaves and sprinkle glitter generously. Shake off the excess and let it dry. Once you have a dozen of glittery leaves, punch a hole at the top of each one and attach a ribbon. Join all strands to make a garland and hang it anywhere you like.
Halloween Candy Jar
Do you know what’s abundant this time of the year apart from leaves, pumpkins, and pumpkin spice latte? Candies! They’re super cheap and you can buy a bulk of them to give away and to use as decorations. For candy jars, you can use any old glass jars you have lying around and some materials you may already have or cheaply buy to design them however you want.
For this specific tutorial, you will need round glass jars, small terra cotta pots and saucers, wooden knob, paint, and decorating materials such as stickers and plastic spiders. Spray paint all the terra cotta parts with a solid color and the doorknob. When you put them all together, it should look like this.
Scented Pine Cones
If you live in an area where pines trees grow, this is a great DIY project you can make. You’ll need several pine cones and cinnamon essential oil or any soothing scent you want. It is recommended to wash and soak the collected pine cones to get rid of all the dirt and mud.
Make the pine cones ‘blossom’ by putting them in the oven on a baking tray covered with aluminum foil. Bake the cones at a low temperature for a quarter of an hour to remove moisture, get rid of sap, sanitize, and to open them up. The cooking times may vary because some cones may be denser or bigger than others and thus, may take longer.
Add the scent by putting approximately 20 drops of your preferred essential oil in half a cup of warm water. Cinnamon, sandalwood or rosemary are favorite scents this time of the year but you can choose what you prefer. After making the mixture, spray the pine cones evenly and store in an airtight container for a few days so it can soak up the scent. Display the scented pine cones anywhere you want in the house.
Upcycled Sweater Pillows
Who doesn’t love lounging in front of the fireplace, holding a mug of hot cocoa, and surrounded by comfortable pillows and a blanket? If you have old or worn-out sweaters you don’t use anymore you can give them a second life by upcycling them into sweater pillows.
This tutorial utilizes most of the parts of the sweater to avoid wasting any of the comfy material. Remnants like sleeves can be made into sweater pumpkins, which you can add as decorations.
