Hello World! Welcome Friends! The time that follows after buying a new home can be both exciting and strange. It may take some time for it to feel like your home. Or, maybe you have been living in the same house for many years and want to spice it up with a new addition of some kind. In either of these situations, change is a good thing!
When making your house a home, you’ll want to provide your family with the very best you can. Planning a major remodeling project takes a lot of time, effort and money – however, these ideas can give your house the added “newness” or some extra “you-ness.”
Standby Generator
Family comes first in any situation. In the event of a major storm emergency or other type of power failure on the grid, what are you going to do? If you do not have a home standby generator in place, you are going to be left in the dark or be forced to leave your house for a friend, family member or even a hotel! Standby generators are a cost-effective way to protect yourself against any emergency situation nature can throw at you! You can visit 10 Power Up for buyer guides and reviews of different generators.
Proper use of a standby generator can save you not only during emergency situations, but they are a great way to save money on your homeowner’s insurance. A standby generator will keep your lights on, and insurers know that when your house’s lights and security system are on, you are less likely to make a home theft claim. Many insurance companies view standby generators as a theft prevention investment, which can lower your monthly or yearly rate!
Add a Bathroom
If you live in an older home, adding an extra bathroom may be one of the best investment decisions you can make. Turning a 3-bedroom 1-bath house into a 3-bedroom 2-bath house can greatly increase the value of your home and its overall marketability, should you ever decide to sell it.
If you don’t want to add an entire extra bathroom, but want simply to expand the one you currently have – you are going to pay about half of the expense of a complete addition. The cost of a full addition will include the framework and foundation, along with all the interior amenities of a bathroom and add in the shower, sink, toilet, and maybe a tub.
While it isn’t incredibly cheap to add a new bathroom to your home, any addition will be sure to make it custom fit to what you and your family expect.
Solar Panels
Not only is the installation of solar panels in your home a great way be environmentally progressive, it can also save you tons of cash! If your roof (or one its sides) faces the south, has plenty exposure to the sun, as well as sufficient space – you can begin generating your own electricity and sell the excess electrical energy back to the utility company!
You can purchase the solar panels, or lease them (which comes with some additional risks and benefits of its own) from a local solar installation company. Its best to do plenty of research before getting make any deal with any installation company!
Beyond installing solar panels, there are several other ways you can save money by implementing solar energy in your home. For example, if you are living off-grid, in a rural area without much access, or just want to cut dependence on utility companies, you can invest in a solar-specific generator that will supplement a battery bank can provide you with stored energy during any kind of power outage.
Making your house a home is the most important thing you can do for your family. By giving them the safety of a standby generator, the warmth of a new room or bathroom, and the freedom of a solar panel, you are well on your way to creating the home of your dreams!

We’ve never added a bathroom. Remodeling one was an experience but I know it added so much value. I’d love to have solar panels. Great tips.
