Hello World! Welcome Friends! Creating a unique wedding may feel like an impossible task with the wedding industry the way it is. From TV shows to magazines, to websites, the world of weddings is everywhere these days, and every celebrity and wealthy socialite is trying to go bigger each time.
This can make it feel very hard for someone of modest income having a smaller wedding to feel like they can create something unique that is just for them.
Jessica, the designer from JJ’s House, says she often sees brides trying to compete with multi-million dollar weddings they saw on TV.
“Not only is it impossible for the average bride, but it’s also very stressful!” she says.
But you don’t have to pose in front of a $100,000 flower wall like the Kardashians or enter your reception on a carriage of white balloons like one bride did in Florence to make your wedding your own. Instead, you have to focus on what you and your partner truly want and not let anything get in the way of that.
Focus On What You Want
This may seem like a given, but you would be amazed at how quickly the opinions of others start to creep into your wedding plans. From pushy mothers to putout bridesmaids, to well-meaning friends, you will be inundated with suggestions for and opinions on your wedding. Instead of allowing these opinions to influence your decisions, sit down with your future spouse and decide what it is you really want in your wedding. Is it traditional elements like white flower girl dresses and the flower-draped aisle of a church that speaks to you as a couple? Or is it a non-denominational wedding in a field where the guests hold wedding sparklers for your exit, and you offer personal pizzas made on-site for dinner? There is no wrong or right answer, only what means something to you.
Don’t Like White? Don’t Wear It
If you’ve never been partial to a white wedding, you don’t need to have one! While white may be a color everyone expects to see at a wedding, you don’t need to have it at your wedding or wear it. Don’t be afraid of color! Have a pink wedding dress, or brightly colored toddler flower girl dresses for your smallest wedding attendants, use dark colors, and dramatic lighting, and don’t be afraid of what people will say.
Don’t Feel Like You Have to Adhere to Traditional Schedules
When you attend a wedding, the program is pretty much set: ceremony, pictures with a cocktail hour for the guests, dinner, and the reception. But if that’s not what you imagined for your wedding or certain elements don’t speak to you, don’t be afraid to get rid of them or change the schedule around. Take the pictures before the ceremony, skip dinner and have three rounds of appetizers passed throughout the night, whatever it is that works for you should be precisely what you do.
However, that being said, you’ll always want to keep your suppliers abreast of the schedule. Even if it’s untraditional, it’s essential that photographers, DJs, and caterers are all aware of what your schedule is—no matter how unique it may be.
