Hello World! Welcome Friends! So, you’ve got some old furniture and you’re not sure what to do with it. You could put it in your car and take it to the dump, but that seems like a waste. Surely there are other ways you can put this piece of furniture to good use – especially if it’s still in excellent condition! Don’t jump to the conclusion of throwing furniture away, consider these three ideas instead:
Upcycle it
Upcycling is the new trend as it takes recycling to new levels. Instead of giving your furniture to someone else who will turn it into different parts, you transform it into something else. For instance, you can take an old bed frame and turn it into a new table or a set of shelves. Upcycling is the idea of taking one thing and making a new thing out of it. This way, your old furniture lives on, and you get some new items to use in your home. Think about what you might need in your house – or what would make a good gift for someone else – then try to upcycle your furniture into it.
Keep it in Storage
There’s nothing wrong with keeping your furniture if you don’t want to get rid of it. Many people choose to do this as you never know when it will come in handy. Perhaps your child is going to university and they’d benefit from the old sofa you had? Or, what if a friend or family member is down on luck and badly needs some new furniture? Hanging onto things is sometimes a good idea, but only if the furniture is still in a good condition. One idea is to use companies like Box and Lock that provide furniture storage solutions. This lets you keep your old furniture in a secure place, protecting it until you need it. If all else fails, you can get the furniture in a few years and then pick one of the other options on this list!
Sell it
Yes, the final option is an obvious one: sell old furniture. Why wouldn’t you want to do this? Well, it can be quite annoying, and you might not want to part with the furniture in the first place. However, if you have no need to upcycle it and don’t wish to keep it, selling is the best option. It helps you reclaim some of the money you spent on the piece, which could go towards buying the new item of furniture. It’s usually best to sell the furniture online, purely because you’ll find more interested parties. But, you can also try to sell it locally by talking to friends and spreading the word.
What will you do with your old furniture? Are you going to turn it into something more useful? Will you hold onto it just in case it comes in handy later in life? Or, will you decide to recover some money and sell it to the highest bidder? All of these ideas are fantastic, and they certainly beat throwing it out.
