Hello World! Welcome Friends! Apartment living caters to the flexible, fast-paced lifestyle of military living. It offers servicemen and women a quality of life and freedom that they cannot get elsewhere and offers an opportunity to be a part of a wider community.
Our military men and women need access to flexible, affordable housing choices. With off-base living becoming more popular, here are the reasons why renting an apartment in the local community represents the best option for servicemen and women.
It will save you money
The Department of Defense will provide a Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) for you and your family. The allowance is calculated based on your family situation (whether or not you have dependents), your rank, and the market rates in the area you are stationed.
This means that the DoD will cover most of your rent and utilities, making off-base housing significantly cheaper. In some cases, servicemen and women will even have money left over at the end of each month. Use a BAH calculator to see how much you could receive towards your rent, utilities, and living costs each month.
You are integrated into the local community
Living on a military base can feel like living in a bubble. Renting an apartment in the local community gives you a feeling of being a part of a local community. You can shop in local stores, take your kids to local parks and attractions, and dine at local restaurants. It gives you a much-needed break from the military lifestyle outside of work.
You have more freedom and flexibility
On-base living often leaves you subject to strict restrictions. You can’t design your living space as you would like to, and, in many places, you can’t have certain dog breeds. Raising your family in a setting with more freedom makes for a happier home environment. For single service personnel, the barracks often include cramped living conditions. Renting an apartment off-base will usually offer more living space and privacy.
There are a number of reputable real estate companies offering military apartments in San Antonio, which are accustomed to handling military rentals. Choose a company that offers flexible short and long-term leases for servicemen and women. This will save you hassle if you move and have to leave on short notice.
Be wary of rental agencies which are not accustomed to dealing with military personnel. They may not be so accommodating if you need to get out of a lease early or have to stay on in the apartment later.
Off-base living in a local apartment usually offers better-quality accommodation, with more space, and greater freedom. It gives you an opportunity to experience a new place, get to know local culture and the local people. Particularly for young families, it offers stability and routine for children. You may even find that it makes better financial sense too, BAH packages can be very generous and leave you with a little extra each month to save or invest. Off-base apartment living doesn’t just offer a better quality of life; it can provide a better future too.
