Hello World! Welcome Friends! Painting is something that’s easy to do a half decent job of, but actually quite difficult to do on an expert level. Anybody can slap a coat of paint on and it won’t look that bad, but if you’re a perfectionist and you want to make sure that everything looks just right, even up close, that won’t do. Whether you’re painting the outside of the house or trying to freshen up the rooms inside, follow these simple rules to take your painting game to the next level.
Choose The Right Paint
This is definitely the most important thing when you’re painting. Whatever you do, don’t try to save money by buying cheap paint. You’ll just end up spending more money in the long run because you’ll have to repaint every couple of years when it starts peeling away. The finish won’t be as good either and it’ll look like rubbish. It’s much easier if you just spend a bit of money on some decent paint in the first place. You should also look at the ingredients that are in the paint. A lot of people don’t realize that most paint contains a lot of potentially harmful chemicals. If you’ve got kids in the house, you don’t want them breathing that stuff in. Luckily, you can get paint made from all natural ingredients like milk and natural pigments which doesn’t contain any of that nasty stuff. You can buy it here from Realmilkpaint.com. It’s best to use this instead of a standard paint with lots of chemicals in it if you want to be sure that your home is safe. You could also consider a wipe clean paint if you’ve got kids in the house. All of those fingermarks and even pen marks will wipe straight off without taking the paint with it.
Use A Primer
A primer is a base layer that you put on to cover any bumps and lumps and create a better surface for the paint to stick to. It means that your coverage will be more even and smooth and there’s less chance of peeling. If you’re painting a wall that is fairly new and has only been painted once or twice before (in a new build house, for example) you can probably get away without it. But any older walls that have a lot of layers, or may have chips and scratches need a primer. If you’re painting wood or metal, you always need a primer, regardless of how new the surface is.
Clean Brushes Properly
Cleaning your brushes is a pain, nobody likes doing that job. But if you neglect it, your paintwork is going to suffer. Any little bits of dried up paint or plaster in the brush are going to end up in the paint next time you use it. If you want smooth walls, you need to make sure that you clean your brushes thoroughly immediately after use. Get a proper brush cleaning solution, rinse the brushes out and then soak them in it overnight. Rinse them out again the next day and they’ll be good as new. It also stops you having to pay for new brushes all of the time.
Follow these 3 rules and you’ll get way better results next time you do some painting around the house

I hate cleaning brushes and rollers, but you are right, it’s a chore that has to be done!

If I have to take a break from painting, but know I will be picking up the brush in a couple of hours; I place the brush in a large Ziploc bag and then place it in the refrigerator. When I get back to painting, the brush is still moist and perfect to resume the task. Thanks for stopping by, Julie!

That’s good to know, thanks. I’m sure my family will think I’ve gone mad if they find a brush in the fridge but if it works, it works!

My husband has gotten used to seeing a paint brush in the fridge…I don’t think he notices it anymore.
