Hello World! Welcome Friends! Research shows that a cluttered space can have a negative impact on the brain. In fact, according to Psychreg, having a messy home can make it difficult to focus, remain productive, and alleviate excess stress from our lives.
As expected, however, a tidy and organized home can have a positive effect on our cognitive and mental health. The only problem, though, is that achieving and maintaining a clutter-free home requires time, work, and effort on our part.
Whether you currently have a messy house or are looking for better ways to maintain your belongings if and when it does get cluttered over time, the following three tips will help provide insight to clearing away that unnecessary, damaging clutter.
1. Start in one room, in one part of the room.
Whenever you’re about to tackle something big and stressful, it’s always important to break the task up into baby steps or smaller components. By doing this, that large task will seem significantly smaller in the long run. Even though you’ll be doing the same amount of work, doing that work in modules makes it seem much easier and less stressful.
In the case of decluttering your home, it’s a good idea to start in one room. If you’re starting in, say, the living room, start de-cluttering in one part of that room, like the bookshelf or the coffee table before tackling other parts of the room, and eventually, other rooms in the home.
2. Create a de-clutter plan.
The more cluttered your space is, the harder it will be to know where to start. Even if you have an idea of where to start, you might struggle when it comes to staying motivated. That’s when it becomes a good idea to create a de-clutter plan. Every single day for a month, make it your goal to de-clutter something, even if it seems trivial.
Maybe one day, you’ll focus on filing away important paperwork. Perhaps the next day, you’ll clean off that messy countertop. Then the day after that, you might clear off the shelves in the hall closet to create extra storage space. Your plan will depend on what you need to be done.
3. Tackle clutter as it comes on.
Even if your home is already pretty messy, this piece of advice still stands. Tackling clutter as it comes on is important whether your home is currently spotless or the equivalent of a dump yard. Let’s face it, we clutter our home on a daily basis. We do this when we leave dishes in the sink, dirty socks on the bedroom floor, and opened mail on the kitchen countertop.
What starts off as minor clutter can easily become a massive mess without daily attention. Make a conscious effort to clean your dishes as you dirty them, handle your dirty clothes right then, and throw away or file away your mail after you’ve opened it. Tackling the clutter as it comes on can save you from a bigger, more stressful mess in the near future.
Conclusion
Keeping your home clutter-free is a big task. However, it’s a task well worth it considering the many benefits of having a clean home, from sharper cognition to a safer environment to thrive in. The good news is, breaking up cleaning into smaller steps, creating a de-clutter plan, and tackling clutter as it comes on can help you achieve a clutter-free home quickly.

I agree it’s so much better to keep up with the clutter rather than letting it gather.
Much less discouraging!

Definitely good ideas. I found the biggest impetus for decluttering unfortunately ended up being…. Moving. I’m determined not to let the new house get anywhere near the state of the old one.
Thanks for sharing at Fiesta Friday.
