Hello World! Welcome Friends! First off, I must apologize for getting the tour up so late in the season. With moving into the house, I had a difficult time deciding where to even put the Christmas decor. I decided not to use a good portion of our Christmas decor so the house wouldn’t have a cluttered look. I’m really wanting a much cleaner look in this house. Secondly, I had a hard time photographing the Entry Hall and Dining Room. They were complete beasts to photograph. I could not get the light level right at all. So, the pictures are a little lack luster in my opinion.
The only thing I purchased this year as far as Christmas decor was the big tree that is in the Family Room. All decor that you will see is decor that I’ve had for years. I believe I purchased this wreath at Michael’s a few years back. I love how beautifully the wreath looks against the wood
We just love our new Capital Lighting chandelier! We have another one that I think will look lovely in the Gameroom upstairs. But, goodness that is on down the road on the list of projects in this house!
I’m still looking for a round rug for the first section of the Entry Hall as well as a taller lamp. We still haven’t found our missing umbrella stand and umbrellas. I think Greg put them in the garage when we were moving in and doesn’t remember quite where in the garage they are. I’m sure I’ll find them eventually. Also, I have a mirror that I plan on spray painting and hang above the chest.
Just look at my new chandelier in the Dining Room! It is so very pretty in person!
On the list of plans for this room is new furniture. My Mom and I swapped dining room furniture when Greg and I moved back to Houston from California. My Mom has had this set since 1979. It has seen its share of family dinners and game nights. But, it’s time to pass it on and get something new. As you can tell from my snails pace with the Entry Hall, I’m taking my time choosing paint, furniture and lighting. I have a couple of tables and hutches picked out and saved in my wish lists for the various furniture stores around town. I’m hoping that next year I will be able to get something a little different.
However, it didn’t take me long to pick out this chandelier. I pulled the trigger on this one pretty quick when I saw it. I guess you can say it was love at first sight!
I love how the blues look as you look back into the Entry Hall. Next year, I promise to have garland on our railing. Last year at the end of Christmas, I threw away our old garland because it just looked so worn out.
This is the last year for the white tree. It was a quick replacement years ago when we discovered our favorite white tree had yellowed. I just load her up with ribbons, picks, and ornaments and hope for the best. I’m thinking about a flocked tree for next year in the Dining room, but Greg is opposed to the idea. Any of you have a flocked tree? I would love to hear your experiences with them.
And, there she is in all of her 12 ft. glory. We opted to keep her pretty simple. No extra fluff. But, you know me. Next year, don’t be surprised if she doesn’t have a completely different look. This year, I wanted to keep our decorating expenses down and use what I had on hand. And, to be honest, I wanted to “see” the tree and not everything on it. Greg decorated the top with the poinsettias cascading down and Chloe and I pretty much did the rest. It’s always so much fun pulling out our family ornaments and rediscovering them again every year.
She is such a pretty tree and very soft to the touch.
I think next year, I may see if my Mom aka Betty Lou can make us some different stockings. I’m feeling the need to switch up the Christmas decor for next year.
I didn’t even put out the full village this year. Chloe and I picked our favorite pieces and put them under the big tree.
The breakfast room was kept simple with a tree and deer vignette on the sideboard.
I grew up with these little cuties, and my Mom passed them on to me for Chloe to enjoy. So, every year they are brought out and placed in the center of the table for little fingers to play with the bells. I happy to say, it still happens today. Chloe may be practically grown, but I believe she has a little bit of nostalgia in her like her mom.
Next week is Christmas! What a glorious birth to celebrate! Our sweet, sweet Savior! Oh, my heart is so full! May your time with your family and friends be the salve your heart needs. May you find rest and peace. May your spirit be excited for the upcoming new year and all of its possibilities. May the Glory of the Lord shine down upon you and all you love! May hearts be softened and open to receive the Lord of Glory!
Luke 2: 8-14
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you: Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
