Hello World! Welcome Friends! We all want to feel safe in our own home, regardless of whether we live alone or with a whole family. Just the thought of having our valuables stolen or having to confront a thief will make anyone feel uncomfortable. There are many things that we can do to make our home safer, a lot of which are simply drawn from common sense, but there are quite a few that people don’t think about, but that are clever ways to make your home safer. Let’s take a look at a few:
Keep your car keys close
A lot of us have a designated place in our home for all keys – including our car keys. But, if you hear some suspicious activity outside – or even inside – the house, pressing the panic button on your car keys will immediately set off the alarm on your car. Even if it doesn’t immediately chase away the burglar, it will attract attention and get the police to your location.
Pay attention to where your security keypad is
Most thieves don’t just choose the target house on the day of the robbery. In fact, houses are staked out for weeks or even months to get as much information as possible. Besides keeping an eye out for suspicious looking cars or people in the neighborhood, you should be thinking about what is the information that a thief can get from looking at your house. Most importantly, you need to make sure that they can’t see your keypad, because if they have vision of it, they can see your code with a simple pair of binoculars. You should be paying special attention if you have glass doors or large windows near your keypad.
Take extra precaution when leaving on vacation
If you are going to be away from your home for a longer time, you have to be extra careful, because empty houses can often be the primary targets for thieves. Before your trip, make sure that you ask a neighbor to regularly check on your house. Pack up right before the trip, because if you pack in advance, it’s like giving thieves a heads up that there is going to be an empty house. When leaving, make sure you close and secure all of the windows and pull and leave all of the curtains open. When closing your front door, stick a piece of paper in between the door and the frame, and ask someone to check it daily. If the paper is gone, it means someone has opened the door. Make sure you also stop your mail for the time, because a pile-up of mail is another sign that there is nobody home.
Update your security system
Having the newest and best security system is the number 1 best way to stay safe. Find a good company and trust them with your security. Security doors in Sydney have been gaining more and more popularity and it’s no surprise why: most thieves will turn away the moment they see a state of the art door. Make sure that nobody except for your immediate family has the pass code for your security system.
There is no feeling more important than the feeling of safety, and since there are a few simple things that we can do to protect both our family and our belongings, there is no reason not to do them. Of course, make sure not to follow any advice that might put you in danger, such as leaving a spare key under the mat or putting your house number as the security code. Try to keep your home as safe as possible, and have the right insurance to cover you in case of any unwanted situations.
