Hello World! Welcome Friends! If you have a firearm for personal or home defense, you want to make sure it doesn’t end up in the wrong hands. Young children don’t always know how dangerous a gun can be. Teenagers might think guns are cool to show their friends. This doesn’t make it any less appealing to have a gun in your home when it comes to protecting yourself (more on that here), so it’s important to know how to safely store it once you have one.
You also don’t want a weapon you bought for home protection to be used against you during a home invasion. Responsible gun owners practice safe gun storage using gun safes.
The accessories of your weapon also help make it safer to use. You want to buy the very best products, like Gray Ops CNC – which never sacrifice quality for quantity.
Whether your gun is new or not, it’s worth investing in an AR-15 carry handle rear sight. It’s more than just a carry handle for your weapon. It makes shooting long-range and short-range safer and more precise because of the two apertures. Also, it’s adjustable according to windage and elevation, so you have a clearer sight of what you’re aiming at.
It’s the Law to Lock Up Your Guns at Home
In Florida, the state statutes say that if you keep a loaded firearm on your property and you know a minor might be there, you are required to keep it locked up. In this case, a minor is considered anyone under the age of 16.
Unless you’re carrying the firearm on your body, it must be either in a locked container or put away with a trigger lock.
If you don’t store your gun safely, it’s a second degree misdemeanor if a minor gains access.
Florida law only holds gun owners criminally liable if the minor gets the gun without permission from his or her legal guardian, and only if they threaten others in a public place.
How Safe is Your Home?
If you want to be extra cautious with your firearms, the California Department of Justice has some stronger guidance. According to state standards in California:
- The gun safe has to have room to completely contain all firearms and be able to be used repeatedly.
- It should have a mechanical lock or an electronic combination lock with at least 10,000 possible combinations with at least three numbers, letters or symbols.
- The lock must be protected by drill-resistant material.
- Exterior walls should have a minimum 12-gauge thick steel for a single-walled safe or 0.100 inches for two combined walls. Doors should be constructed of at least one layer of 7-gauge reinforced steel or at least two layers of 12-gauge compound.
- Door hinges should be a type that can’t be removed.
Tips to Conceal a Gun Safe to Improve Home Safety
Once you have your weapons locked up in a gun safe, you can make them more secure by hiding the safe itself! These don’t have to be expensive either. Websites like https://gunlawsuits.org/top-
Build a Closet Vault
Construct a space in a closet wall to place your gun safe. Closets are less likely to attract attention, and they provide plenty of space for you to store your ammunition and gun-cleaning equipment.
Use an Old Electrical Panel
Construct a space in a closet wall to place your gun safe, advises Alex Davis from Firearms Daddy. Everyone but you thinks it’s a breaker box.
Hide It in Furniture
The coffee table isn’t a bad place to keep your gun safe if it has enclosed storage space and a lock on it. China cabinets and wall shelves often have hidden storage that can disguise a safe. Make secret compartments in old cabinets.
File It Away
Thieves are unlikely to look for weapons in your tax records, so think about locking your gun safe in a filing cabinet. Label the drawer something like “Utility Bills 2001 to Present.” Very few people would be enticed to look into something like that.
Use Your Built-Ins
Many homes have built-in entertainment centers with space that’s no longer needed for flat screen TVs. Mount your flat screen in the space that was designed for older televisions. Put it on hinges and then try to use the space behind to store your gun safe.
Hide Your Safe Somewhere Unexpected
If you’re storing guns in a garage, you can use an old refrigerator or job site toolbox to contain your gun safe, depending on the size. If your safe is small, you can get even more creative. You can also buy books that lock and have the pages hollowed out in order to store a pistol.
So Many Possibilities: Use Your Imagination to Hide Your Gun Safe
Per the Second Amendment, you’re fully within your rights to keep a firearm at your residence for protection, if you choose. No matter what, just make sure it’s stored safely and securely.

Obviously, owning a gun safe a must thing. However, owning a safe is far not the only thing that ensures the safety of the house. I believe that once there is a gun in the house, parents absolutely must explain to kids what the gun is why it is not a toy.
