Hello World! Remember a while back before I got a bee in my bonnet to paint and rearrange all of the rooms upstairs, I wrapped some books. Old books plus pretty wrapping paper; the durable kind.
Those books. I have been an avid reader all of my life. Since, I’m not a fan of clutter, I try to be very careful about giving away or selling things I don’t use. However, books do not fall into that equation. I just knew that they would come in handy; and they have. Trust me when I tell you I have more books to wrap. I should plop myself down on the floor, put a good movie in and have a fun wrapping session.
Now to show you where the books have landed.
We start off in the foyer where I’ve added two stacks of books to a couple of shelves. Sorry for not showing a wide shot of the bookcase. I want to show her off to you after I’ve made up my mind styling her. I cannot decide what I want to put on the bottom shelf. This shelf has the two selections of gold paper that I purchased from Target. How do you like the gold vase? My sister and I have been helping my Mom clean out her house and this was one of her vases she decided I needed to have. She’s definitely a pretty one.
This stack of books sits next to our framed wedding invitation from 10 years ago and my attempt at Anduze style technique on the pretty to the right. If you want more information on my Anduze style painting, click here.
On a lower shelf, we have a stack of blue & white wrapped books topped with the ever present blue & white pretty. Funny enough, I picked this little bowl up at Walgreen’s along with two others that are in the blue & white theme.
On the other side of the foyer, we have two silver and white books paired with a gold bookend. You will see that gold is increasing in my house as an accent color. Please pardon the state of the old chest. She really needs a good stripping, sanding and a fresh coat of paint. If you want to see the various shades this chest has been, click here for when she was white and click here for when she went blue.
Turning from the foyer into the family room.
Look who is sitting on top of the entertainment center! It’s little Cozi. She leaps up to her perch using the couch closest to the entertainment center. I love this entertainment center. It has perfect storage for all of our dvd’s and gaming systems. It of course, is home to another stack of books. You can get a great idea of how far this room has come by checking out the post for when we bought the entertainment center. Also, if you’re interested, you can check out the entertainment center I designed and had built at our former house. It was so fun looking at that post again. Little Dedicated was a year old and cute as a button and I had a short and sassy hairdo!
More white in silver in this cabinet. Also, more little bowls from Walgreen’s. The big bowl and both of the platters are from Home Goods. To see some recent finds from Home Goods, click here.
Under the coffee table is a fun mixture of gold paper wrapped books. I know I need to get some pictures on the walls, but I just can’t decide what to hang. There are a ton of pictures or mirrors in my possession that I really should use instead of buying more, but I’m in a quandary.
More blue and white books with my beautiful Ralph Lauren lamps in the hearth room. These lamps were purchased the first week we moved into this house. If you want to see what the family room looked like when we moved in, click here.
On the other side of the hearth room, more gold. Below are a couple of pictures just to give you an idea of the current state of the family room and the foyer.
I think I want to hang a large mirror between the windows, but I haven’t found one that I really like.
In the foyer, I added some pencil drawings of Southern Illinois University where I got my Masters of Music. It is such a beautiful campus. Also you can see a little more of the bookcase I will be showing you shortly after I decide on the styling.
Things to come. Cushions that are going outside and a sampling of the Currier & Ives my Mom gave to me after cleaning out her china cabinet.
Cozi moved from her perch on the entertainment center to catch some sun on the breakfast room table. That cat! She is such a sweet kitty with a lovely disposition.
There are so many exciting things in the works here. Furniture was delivered yesterday which I’m looking forward to showing you as well as new cushions for the outdoor bistro set (which I hope to spray paint today or tomorrow…that is if the rain stays away), and of course all of my new goodies from Home Goods.

Your covered books look great…I like the way you have used them throughout the house. I stayed at a hotel that had a room with hundreds of books all covered in white with great effect.

Thanks so much, Carole! Cozi is a little stinker, but she is sooo sweet, that it is hard to get mad at her. LOL

Kathryn, like you, I have hundreds (thousands?) of books. I’m an avid reader and books are like friends that you don’t want to say good~bye to. Wrapping them in pretty paper adds a beautiful and cohesive look to the decor throughout your home. Thanks for sharing at Your Inspired Designs.
