Hello World! Welcome Friends! Some people always appear to have a tidy kitchen such that it feels like they never use it. Well, this is not rocket science; it’s achievable through merely adopting certain routines that are geared towards attaining a sparkly kitchen. For those who are curious about such routines, here are ten habits that people with tidy kitchens have adopted.
They Clean as They Go
It’s not unusual to make massive messes cooking, which includes staining the countertop, cooker, sink, and floor. Homeowners should, therefore, never start cooking unless they have wet wipes at arm’s reach. This enhances the chances of immediately cleaning up after making a mess. Also, people should learn to return items like cutlery and kitchen towels to their respective storage spaces immediately when done using them. Doing this prevents accumulation of items on the kitchen counter, leaving the kitchen tidy.
They Wipe and Dust Off Regularly
People who constantly spend the whole day out of their house or frequently spend weekends away from home should make a point of cleaning the kitchen before using it to get rid of dust and other debris. This is especially necessary if they leave the windows and back doors open. For this purpose, using a disinfectant is imperative to ensure optimal hygiene in the kitchen.
They Keep the Fridge Fresh
This includes restocking the fridge as often as possible. Homeowners also need to avoid keeping food in the fridge for months, which is possible through planning weekly shopping. Doing this will allow the refrigerator to feature fresh foods only. Leftovers and fresh foods should be stored in airtight containers to maintain freshness. Packed food like leftovers should not be stored for more than a few days. While frozen meat can be stored for a long period, it shouldn’t be stored to its expiry. Ideally, anything having a short expiry duration should be bought in very small portions.
They Have a System
Having a system that dictates the manner in which things are arranged in the kitchen is highly recommended. For example, a homeowner can choose to place all the plates in one cabinet. They can also have the teacups in a separate cabinet from the glasses. Buying a cutlery holder and placing it on the kitchen counter is advisable. They can also hang all the pans in descending order and strictly adhere to such like systems. Cleaning up and subsequently returning all the utensils and cutlery where they belong allows them to maintain superior tidiness in the kitchen.
They Clean Up Their Equipment after Use
It’s a common practice for homeowners to buy devices that are designed to ease their work. However, very few people remember to clean up their tools. Take the juice extractor, for example; it is used for blending fruits and making juice in the kitchen. And many people merely rinse it with cold water and store it until the next use. A preferred way involves pouring some water into the appliance, spraying a bit of soap and blending the mixture. This cleaning method guarantees that all the corners of the machine are cleaned up properly and subsequently rinsing it with water ensures that the stains are flushed out.
They Keep the Trash Cans Out
People residing in apartments ought to keep the trash cans on the balcony. For those living in their own compound, keeping the trash cans out is advisable. However, those having neither a balcony nor a compound and thus compelled to keep the trash cans in the kitchen should use a closeable bin and always keep it closed. Trash cans are often culprits of bad odor in the kitchen hence it is advisable to always empty them in addition to cleaning the waste paper often. The trash can helps with appropriate disposal of dirt and other unwanted materials thus keeping the kitchen looking tidy.
They Keep the Stove Sparkly
A kitchen neat-freak will always clean up the stove after using it. Cleaning the stove does not mean struggling through the stovetops. It merely entails removing the stove tops and cleaning them and washing the surface under them. This way, the stove is left utterly clean, keeping away cockroaches and other insects that are typically attracted by dirt and oil scents.
They Thoroughly Clean After the Main Meals
During breakfast and dinner, a lot of people cook wholesomely hence having a lot to clean up after. People with tidy kitchens will, therefore, adopt a routine of sparing 10 to 15 minutes after the meals to thoroughly clean the kitchen. This cleaning procedure usually includes washing dishes, the stove and countertops, scrubbing the sink, wiping the floor as well as systematically arranging everything in the shelves and cabinets.
They Use the Clean Towel Mechanism
After meals, people will have probably dirtied the dish towels with food splashes and wiping the utensils. It makes sense to take out a clean dish towel for the next day and wash the previous one. Doing this every day saves the homeowner the agony of cooking in an untidy kitchen full of dirty towels whose colors they can barely tell.
They Wipe Down the Wall
Depending on the meal being prepared, the person in charge of cooking may have food splattered all over the wall near the stove. There is nothing as revolting as a food-stained wall. Whether or not the stove has a lid or cover, it’s imperative to briefly wipe the wall around it with wet wipes after cooking to avoid staining.
If there’s a room in the entire house requiring impeccable tidiness, it’s the kitchen. Keeping this area clean and tidy as well as disinfecting it brings a bunch of health benefits. Also, kitchen appliances like the toaster should be cleaned regularly to prevent staining. This is in addition to keeping the utensils and towels clean and subsequently storing them neatly in kitchen cabinets.

I find that it makes a difference to do a quick wipe-down, even if I’m not getting into every little nook and cranny. The perfectionist in me wants to wait until I can do a deep clean, but giving it a quick surface wipe several times a day means it looks good enough to the undiscerning eye (even if there are piles of crumbs under the toaster and I need to clean the grout on the backsplash.

These are great ideas, I should probably work on a few more of them. Moving my trash can might not be a bad idea.
