1. Plant Pots Repurposed
If you’ve got plenty of clay pots hanging around your garden, why not find a new use for them? Flip them upside down, drill some holes, or stack them into towers to create a fun and unique design. You can even add a little paint to make them more homely for the birds.
2. Recycled Materials
Remember all the things you could craft with at school? Whether it’s plastic bottles, tin cans, milk cartons, or toilet rolls, there’s a crafty way to repurpose them all. Make a few holes, add some branches, fill with seed, and hang from a tree for an instant, eco-friendly bird feeder.
3. Serving Dish Salvage
Any old kitchen dishes, trays, and platters that you no longer use can finally be put to use. And some have really ornate designs that would look great in the garden as a bird bath. Create a stable platform with a branch, log, or even a table leg, so the birds can bathe in comfort.
4. A Land of Pots and Pans
Heading back to the kitchen, there’s always some old pot or lid we can find a better use for. For instance, remove the handle from an old wok and you’ve got the perfect outdoor bowl. Add a lick of paint and stack on some branches, and bam you’ve got a new bird bath.
5. Appliance Yourself
Maybe that old kettle or coffee pot is still hiding in your cupboard. But it can really make for an interesting bird feeder in your backyard. Just make some holes, take it apart, and chuck in some seed.
6. Flip the Script
Take an old salad bowl, plate, or even a frisbee as a base. Then attach a plastic jar or tube to the bottom, add some feeding holes, and hang from the tree for another unique feeder.
7. Lids and Stones
Birds need a good bath – read on here to see why. So, for a perfect rustic bird bath, take one of those galvanized trash can lids and stack some stones in and around it. They’ll keep it sturdy and make for a nice water feature too.
8. Like It or Lamp It
That’s right, even old lamps can be repurposed into a bath or feeder. Flip it, paint it, add seed or water, and you’ve got yourself a nice ornate garden feature for the birds.
9. Quick-Fix Feeder
Here’s a really easy one. Coat a pine cone in peanut butter, roll it in bird seed, then hang from a tree with string for an instant and simple bird feeder.
10. Timber Treats
Get your hammer, nails, and wood glue, and get creative. Use branches, twigs, or lollipop sticks to construct your very own bird feeder. Stack them into a box shape or whatever you like and you’ve got the perfect feeder that doesn’t look out of place.
