Hello World! Welcome Friends! Bathroom trends often lean more towards a modern, minimalist feel. That’s fine but if your house is a more traditional property, like a Victorian one, for example, it doesn’t really fit. You need to go for something a bit more traditional if you want it to match with the rest of the decor in the house. Here are some simple tricks you can use to perfect a traditional bathroom design.
Freestanding Tubs
The bath is the centerpiece of your bathroom and it dictates the rest of the decor so you have to make sure that you get it right. Most modern bathrooms have an integrated tub but if you’re going for something more old fashioned, you’re much better off with a freestanding tub. You can find a handy guide to the best ones here. Once you’ve chosen the perfect tub, you need to think about the placement because that will help you decide where the rest of the furniture goes. If you’ve got a large bathroom, you could consider putting it right in the center. But that’s not the most economical way to use space if the room is smaller. In that case, it’s probably better to put it underneath the windowsill against the wall so you’ve still got enough room for everything else.
Vanities
A Vanity is the other major focal point that you’ll have in your bathroom but if you get a slick modern one, it won’t look right with your freestanding tub. Instead, you should go for an antique one; click here to find some of the best ones on the market. Modern bathrooms usually make use of fitted vanities but if you’re trying to create a more traditional aesthetic then you’ll have more success with a freestanding one to match the tub.
Neutral Colors
In an older property, you’re more likely to have a lot of wooden floors and surfaces and you need to match the design of your bathroom to that palette. Neutral colors are your friend here because anything too out there will stand out and look odd compared to the rest of the house. Older properties often have smaller windows as well, which means you’re working with limited light. Keep that in mind when you’re choosing colors and go for lighter shades that reflect the light. Whites and creams are your best bet when you’re decorating a traditional bathroom.
Simplicity Is Key
One of the biggest mistakes that you can make here is overcrowding the bathroom because older houses already have a lot of good features that you don’t want to overshadow. Things like exposed beams on the ceiling and wooden floors are already giving you the aesthetic that you want but if you start trying to put too much into the bathroom, you’ll cover it all up and lose that. Just put in the furniture that you need in the bathroom and let the room do the rest of the work for you.
Stick to these rules and you’ll manage to create a perfect bathroom that fits with the aesthetic of your period property.
